Trust Director of Mathematics. Northern Leaders Trust, Newcastle upon Tyne. Passionate about providing equal opportunities for the disadvantaged. Mensan.
Taking sometime out of school today at the @NCETM MAT Maths Lead community in Birmingham. Fantastic to join a group of like minded people in similar roles to discuss all things Maths.
Amazing to be able to reflect on a positive first week back. Both schools in our trust increased 5+ pass rates in Maths by over 10% and 4+ wasn’t far behind. Genuinely making a difference to some of the most disadvantaged students in the country. Same again this year…..
@sortitoutsi having a bit of trouble on Mac. I downloaded the update about 6 weeks ago but now when I download the more recent updates all I get is the old ones. I’ve tried deleting all files and reinstalling. Maybe something to do with the cloud? Any ideas?
It was fantastic to welcome @DrFrostMaths to @kentonschool this afternoon. A brilliant assembly for our students followed by a showcase of his resources for teachers in the region.
@ofqual when will we know the result of the formula sheet gcse consultation? We have mock exams next week and I want to give them to students if that’s what will be expected in summer 2024. And vice versa if not.
Shout out to everyone who’s happy with the ballot but even more happy with the fact that they won’t have to keep checking their texts every 5 mins.
If you know, you know 😉.

Every pupil to study Maths until the age of 18, the prime minister will announce tomorrow.
But detail is light and it would only happen after the next election.

@BBCSport@BBCMOTD putting it out there for all school teachers who don’t have to teach students for an awkward 20 minutes after the match. The 4th official is player of the match.
Delivering a CPD session tomorrow and finally getting to grips with the space/place argument that led to me look at human geographers as if they were aliens.
My first thought at learning we’ll have an extra Monday off in May is for all those teachers with double GCSE classes on Mondays.
My thoughts are with you.
@ahernahern @adamboxer1 I’m not sure I necessarily follow that what we’re doing now is wrong but it will certainly be developed and improved upon. That’s how it goes isn’t it? Did VAK etc need to happen to teach the current perspective?
Really focussing on reviving my use of engaging assessment techniques this half term. This peer assessed washing line technique allowing Y7 students to explore varying opinions on the statement “square numbers can be positive and negative”.
