Yay, your hero won you a minimum wage scooter job that will keep you poor forever, delivering food to her european bosses who live in all the comfort and privilege our country has to offer. Not homes, not land, not ownership in mines and resources, a minimum wage scooter job 🤡
@GvanOnselen Even if your loyalty to Leon as some kind of father figure entirely blinds you, you have to wake up and see the damage you, Coetzee etc are doing to the future of our ethical political standards by attempting to dismiss what you would treat as a big scandal from the ANC. SURELY?
@GvanOnselen Your other example, that the former EC head of the DA left the party and then used his contacts to broker meetings with municipal figures, is so silly as to be genuinely embarrassing. You can’t seriously see that as the same thing? Surely? (10)
@GvanOnselen This is “pay to play” politics. It’s rotten. And your attempts to persuade South Africans that we should overlook this because it’s the DA are rationally empty. There is absolutely no case for treating the DA, a party in power, differently to the ANC here (5)
@GvanOnselen place pressure on DA members of the executive to take action in accordance with the wishes of Tony Leon’s lobbying clients, who are paying handsomely, and not necessarily in the public interest. Steenhuisen’s account has been backed by at least 4 other former DA seniors. (4)
@GvanOnselen Now the DA is in government. It has Ministers and Deputy Ministers with the power to shape and change policy. And what the DA’s own current deputy minister John Steenhuisen has said is that it is common practice for a lobbying firm run by a former DA leader to (3)
@GvanOnselen to rewarding donors to political parties, to full-scale Bell Pottinger influence campaigns. Because the ANC has solely governed for close to 30 years, all these scandals obviously involved the ANC and were rightly condemned by the DA, you, Ryan and the boyz. (2)
@AdriaanBasson Hi @AdriaanBasson given that these revelations about Resolve were made to your face, I assume you have your top journalists investigating conflicts of interests there? @wicks_jeff et al? Or not because Leon is your columnist and at least 2 other Resolve execs worked for Naspers?
@TonyLeonSA@AdriaanBasson@RyanCoetzee If they have nothing to hide, in the interests of transparency both Leon and Coetzee should disclose all past and current clients to allow for scrutiny of the DA members of the GNU Executive’s policy positions. How bout it @TonyLeonSA@RyanCoetzee? No reason not to, right?
The issue: SA allows politically-connected consultants to occupy the space between private lobbying, party strategy, governance & public commentary without requiring disclosure of whose interests they may simultaneously represent. @TonyLeonSA & @RyanCoetzee cynically exploit this
How do we know if the issues @TonyLeonSA writes about in his News24 column are not informed by the interests of his lobby clients @AdriaanBasson? We don’t, because Resolve’s client list is confidential. How do we know what work @RyanCoetzee does on the side from DA? 🤷♂️
