New study finds that nearly 1.2 billion people globally had mental disorders in 2023, marking a 95.5% increase since 1990.

• The largest increases were seen in anxiety and depression
• Ages 15 to 39 were most affected by the increase, with women being the most impacted
• Experts say the higher rates are linked to several factors, including the reduced stigma around mental illness — which has led people to be more comfortable reporting symptoms and seeking help
