Morrissey released “The Youngest Was the Most Loved” on 5 June 2006. The single reached number 14 on the UK Singles Chart. The song remains one of the more curious and divisive recordings of Morrissey's solo career.
Released 25 years ago today, The Very Best of The Smiths was a record company compilation assembled without the approval or involvement of Morrissey or Johnny Marr. Both dismissed the release, ridiculed the artwork, and urged fans to ignore it.
Today marks the 63rd birthday of Mike Joyce, whose drumming provided one half of the extraordinary rhythmic foundation beneath the sound of The Smiths. Happy Birthday to Mike Joyce!!
