While it’s not as sexy as training methodologies or the X’s and O’s of sport science and applied practice, I found it a really valuable process to dive deeper and get a better understanding of epistemology as it relates to my practice and thinking.

Towards the back end of last year I felt a little lost with reflective practice and realised I’d fallen into the trap of reflecting just for the sake of it.

🧵 Training for physical outcomes
There’s an abundance of literature on area sizes in football, not to mention a lot of valuable anecdotal evidence from coaches as well.

@DeasunO@maloneperform I think a lot of football periodisation is ‘because we’ve always done it this way.’ But sport science/physical prep should justify any strategies. Within this specific model, I think the MD-2 would be better served as a recovery day, with any speed work done on the endurance day.
Following up the article I wrote for @SportsmithHQ, I've collated a few examples of some warm up options for football with a focus on explosive speed and change of direction.

"Make warm ups fun and engaging. Aim for repetition without repetition by varying instructions, movement directions, and reactive elements. This keeps athletes motivated and prepares them for the ever-changing demands of their sport"

"A warm up should never just be a warm up. It’s a disservice to athletes to repeat the same routine daily. Be creative!"
