This is straight-up myth.
1. Plenty of airstrips were available.
2. Intentionally crashing a plane would risk the pilot and the load.
3. The amount of cocaine carried in these small planes did not require a “flotilla” of speed boats.
4. Airdrops were used when no runway was available. The coke is placed in coolers, wrapped in tape, then dropped to waiting vehicles or boats.
5. Most crashes were from weather, pilot error, or overloading the aircraft.
Saying we don't need guns because we have police is like saying we don't need fire extinguishers because we have the fire department.
Never count on someone else for your safely.
