"Out of the Frying-Pan Into the Fire" was always one of my favorite chapters in the Hobbit. For me, it is the true start of his adventure to the Lonely Mountain, as getting through the Misty Mountains is a feat in and of itself. The title of this chapter is a cool analogy #ENG501

The trauma that losing a parent can cause is tremendous and is evident in Sal when Ben is asking her about her mom. He has no idea what she truly means when she answers his question about why her mother is in Idaho.

Gramps is a great example of someone who has the best intentions but doesn't always realize when they make things hard for people. (for example when he took the lady's engine out and left her to pay the mechanic for it) #ENG501

The fact that Sal made peace with her mother's death by the end speaks to the notion that in life we must keep our heads up and keep the ball rolling. Yet, we must also recognize when we need to process things so that we can live fully in the present moment. #ENG501

The U.S. government strikes again with its mistreatment of U.S. citizens...smh. The people being deported for striking is yet another example of the monstrosities our government has committed (In many cases, they continue to deport people wrongfully even today). #ENG501

It was cool to see the lynch mob and the farmers have to band together to stop the cotton fire at the end of the novel...even if it was out of necessity. I saw this event as a symbol of hope that one day we can all understand one another. #ENG501

Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry has a name that speaks volumes - it is a reference to the spiritual of the same name. This spiritual song is about taking a stand against injustice, just as the Logan family tries to do. #ENG501

It is appalling to me that we actually forced American citizens to be held in internment camps - no matter what their nationality was. Just another example of a way people should never be treated. #ENG501
