Brilliant news that @Middle_Marches has bought two hay meadows home to 90% of Shropshire's green-winged orchids, funded by 100s of local donors in a relatively low income village and boosted by @HeritageFundUK. Now in community ownership! @guyshrubsole

Thanks @jcartlidgemp for asking @mtpennycook about the Community Housing Fund. As well as all the benefits the minister lists, it has also helped communities build at least 492 homes so far with >4k in the works and >10k waiting for future funding. What's not to like?
Great article from @tom_chance for @insidehousing on the value of community-led housing and why the government should endorse the strategy from @CommLandTrusts, @CoopHousingUK and @UKCohousing to scale the sector up to help meet its housebuilding targets: https://t.co/K24D02I9m8
Thanks @JessBrownFuller for highlighting, in a debate on social housing, Westbourne CLT, on site and in the mix to be completing the 2,000th affordable @CommLandTrusts home! I recently met with @mtpennycook to discuss how this could be hugely scaled up.

Crazy stat in UK Housing Review: govt spending on housing is at its highest: £30.5 billion in 2021/22 compared to £22.3 billion in 1975/76, in real terms. In the 70s, 95% was on housebuilding, now it's only 12%. The main reason for this drop? A rise in demand for housing benefit.

This article in @TimesProperty - highlights residents in Eastington CLT's new affordable homes. We loved that @JayneDowle balanced their rural homes with stories from @TheFlorrie, @RUSSLewisham and @LondonCLT to show the real spread and diversity of CLTs!

A Community Right to Buy could be transformative for communities. But government needs to ensure communities can purchase assets at the right price.
What is the right price? Well, valuation is not so straightforward.

If a Community Right to Buy is going to work, it needs to get valuation right. It's rather nerdy, but hugely important! I've written about it for @powertochange_

Lovely to join Bishops Castle CLT for the grand opening of their second project, turning a derelict shop on the high street into a new community space and two low rent homes for locals in housing need.
This is all very interesting, and I've lots of small detailed thoughts.
But it lacks any carbon accounting re airport expansion, construction of housing and infrastructure, etc. as though this just doesn't exist. I find this a bit strange for three very clever people.
Foundations: Why Britain Has Stagnated.
A new essay by @bswud, @SCP_Hughes & me.
Why the UK's ban on investment in housing, infrastructure and energy is not just a problem. It is *the* problem.
And how fixing it is the defining task of our generation.
