@ninthhostage I think a LOT of people who came to the city for college (or just after) use schools/yard/kids as an excuse to leave, but really wanted to leave anyway. These reasons, though, are typically considered off limits for criticism ("gotta do what's best for your family").
@ninthhostage ...so the adult gets to keep the illusion that they're still "cool enough" for the city, with the added benefit of being able to say they sacrificed a lot for their kids. If you want to leave, just say that! The school system has become an easy scapegoat that no one questions.
@HannahPosted I just came here from a thread where everyone was fighting about how pointless leaving your home in order to go to work is, so maybe there's also some trickle-down to the kids. They see their parents never leave the house--for work or for socialization--and so they don't, either.
@jblumgart It's a beautiful building with a cool history. Upstairs was/is completely empty and uninhabitable. Proud to be part of the team that will give it new life!
@harrisonfinberg I'm on the zoning committee for my RCO, and one time a realtor (who lived in the neighborhood) wanted to join the committee, and one of the other members objected because "he'd be too pro-development", as if the express purpose of the group was to stop stuff.
@bikemamadelphia I never met him, but was a longtime follower here; he taught me a lot and gave me a new perspective on life in Philly. A big loss, and terrible way to go.
@nealbrennan Saw your show in Philly last night and it was amazing, start to finish. Thank you for an amazing night. Awesome to see someone perform at the top of their game. Hope you enjoy the rest of the tour!
