@socialstudiestx Anything from trophies to free excursions and everything in between. A woman’s husband won a free hr massage at the spa and gave it to his wife while he was at the casino.

[Tonja Graham @TonjaTeaches]

@socialstudiestx They bought glasses for everyone to watch it and the teachers are doing special lessons

[Tonja Graham @TonjaTeaches]

@teachbk @bogardus_mary I was at a school that made sure the teachers were trained in RJ but when we asked admin why they never upheld their end of RJ we got weak excuses. Needless to say, it didn’t work at that school.

Over 90% of Finnish teachers remain in education for entirety of career. How? Teachers are respected as professionals, given adequate time for planning during the school day, and more autonomy in school decisions. Maybe that's why we lose nearly 50% of teachers every 5 years!

To all the wonderful SS educational rockstars heading to #NCSS2023 be safe traveling and have fun! Hopefully I’ll see y’all next year!

And share pics of all the fun!!

The reason I don't like standardized teacher evaluations is because there are no standardized teachers!

Talked to a history teacher from the UK today and he told me that half a page of a textbook covers the 13 colonies and the Am. Rev. 🤯 Learned a few other interesting tidbits and got new book recs about USA history from the British perspective. 💜 it! #teacher #history

Obligatory first day of school pic for my kiddos! Starting kindergarten, 3rd, and 6th grade this year.

[Tonja Graham @TonjaTeaches]

Maybe it’s just the fact that I teach social studies but I find it ridiculous that my 3rd grade child had a textbook that was published 20 years ago for social studies.

[Tonja Graham @TonjaTeaches]

@goodreads Display them like the beautiful trophies they are 🏆

@socialstudiestx @TheTejanaTeachr @JenniferAWelch @shinram1 @LatinaComm @HistoryFrog @NHTOYMc @MapM8ker @MrShaneGower @jjolleymsd @BlakeBusbin @zdlowe @kyteacher @bohndrake They have skills standards, not content so it’s mostly teacher autonomy. Some districts purchase textbooks and have the teachers stick to that curriculum as well. Teachers have the autonomy on enrichment activities.
