STATEMENT ON POLICE BRUTALITY AGAINST YOUTH IN NANDI.
I am deeply disturbed by the incident that occurred at 11:51 PM on the night of 10th January in Nandi, where police officers from Nandi Hills Police Station violently assaulted young men whose only “crime” was playing pool.
Let it be stated clearly: playing a game is not a crime.
Our youth are already going through a lot in this country. For many of them, engaging in games is not just leisure, but a positive way to keep themselves occupied, avoid crime, and build talent. We must not create a dangerous precedent where games are criminalised, yet these same games have the potential to produce world champions and create opportunities that can change lives.
No law in Kenya requires citizens to carry their IDs at all times. No law prohibits people from playing games at night. Even where a law is alleged to have been broken, the police cannot act as both arresting officers and prosecutors, nor can they serve as judges.
Kenya is a constitutional democracy founded on the principle of presumption of innocence; that every Kenyan is innocent until proven guilty. Brutality and violence have no place in law enforcement.
WE DEMAND THE IMMEDIATE ARREST OF THE OFFICERS INVOLVED, AND THEY SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT.
Our youths deserve dignity, protection, and opportunity; not violence.

In Gulu, heartland of the Acholi,
land of resilience, land that remembers.
Gulu embraced us.
The drums spoke, dancers traced this journey in dust and rhythm.
Culture is not a relic,
But a living fire.
To be carried forward, not buried in ash.
The Safarilink Airlines today officially launched the Kisumu–Entebbe route, linking Kenya & Uganda 45 mins apart via air across Lake Victoria. This will boost trade, tourism, investment & cultural exchange, reinforcing Kisumu as a key gateway to East & Central Africa. #TichTire
Hello Cyprian. ID tupa mbali.
I've worked for Simple Pay Capital, a microfinance hq in Lower Kabete.
As we marketed the loans to SMEs, we lured them with an interest of only 1%.
What we never revealed is that it was 1% per day of loan balance (principal+interest). T&Cs read the loan has a tenor of 30 days, but we used to force people to pay within 2 weeks, and "force" them to take another one immediately.
This is a predatory way, and the microfinance has wrecked lives and caused so much stress on victims. The model is aimed to trap an individual, such that when you pay, you'll be so broke that you'll have to take another one.
Upon doing the work, you realize you bring doom rather than peace/joy to the people.
1% a day means 30% per month. No full disclosure is given when signing the T&Cs, on the consequences of defaulting even with 1 day.
