Here’s PopMatters annual Best Albums of the Year list. As always it contains a huge variety of music across a slew of genres.
I have 3 write-ups this time, and they’re all clustered here in the 60’s: Vampire Weekend, The Decemberists, and Khruangbin.

@EricaGrieder My car insurance quadrupled over the summer with the addition of a teenage driver and a car for her and that sucks, yet it didn’t suddenly turn me around to vote for Trump. People should take pics of their grocery receipts this week and revisit in ‘26 and ‘28 to compare.
@NoBlood4Hubris@2Strong2Silence The Baby Boomers running the Party like it was the congenial 70’s and 80’s is a big part of the reason we are here today. The Gingrich House abandoned that congeniality 30 years ago, and the Dick Durbins pretend it’s still the same.
Seems like this week would be a good time for everyone to take a picture of their next grocery receipt. Then compare in October 2026 and again in 2028 and see how much #Trump and #Republicans bring those prices down.
Kevin Burkhardt to Tom Brady: “We talked about that yesterday in the production meeting when you weren’t feeling well, partner.” Fox just pretending that long list of Brady restrictions now that he’s a team owner doesn’t exist. @Lions@GreenbaypackNFL
@mattyglesias Not sure your ultimate conclusion, “Due to his lack of attention and discipline, he probably won’t do anything too damaging to the country this time, either, if he gets elected” is one I agree with.
@Steven_Hyden@Sloanmusic Just awesome. One of the things I miss about living in Houston instead of metro Detroit is I don’t get to see Sloan live every 1-2 years.
@jamiegriffith80@Steven_Hyden This American who grew up listening to Windsor’s alternative rock station does! And when I saw them in Houston last time they came through, the (small) venue was packed.
I've spent decades obsessed with the weirdest corner of the weirdest section of the worst internet law in the US: Sec 1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which felonizes helping others configure their computers to serve their own interests over the manufacturers'.

@deanwball As a reminder to non-Texans, the Texas Legislature only meets for 4.5 months every 2 years, and gets nothing done for 4 of those months. So unless “AI Bullshit” becomes a Top 5 priority for those in charge (and it might!) this will likely got lost in the shuffle.
