A few nuggets I've gathered on the Broncos play-calling situation:
- It's always been a collaboration. It wasn't like when Webb took over Payton started working half days. He's always been a part of this during the week.
It's the Broncos/Sean Payton's offense and certainly Davis Webb as the OC has had a larger voice in the room and more say in wrinkles / concepts being added within the offense. Some of those are added and some of them shot down. Not out of the norm with an experienced play-calling head coach.
- Webb was on the walkie in Bo Nix's ear in practice this week, that would be a solid sign that would remain the case for Sunday. If not, strange thing to do to your QB.
- I'd look for Payton to have a more vocal role on gameday Sunday, not calling the plays directly, but much more input in what he wants.
- Webb as a first time play-caller faced 4 really good defenses to start his career. 3 defenses in the top 6 and the Rams are 9th.
- There certainly is the argument to let Webb grow into the roll vs a spark is needed for the offense.
- Davis Webb was a runner up for two head coaching positions and a sought after play-calling OC. He's a very talented young coach who the Broncos wanted to keep in the building.
