We are 1️⃣6️⃣ days from the Diamond Rebs' Opening Weekend in Honolulu, Hawaii. Today, we scout another Rebel transfer that helped Ole Miss land the 7th-ranked transfer class in 2023 according to https://t.co/6V9SYtZjk9 Kyler Carmack. Kyler is a 6'2" 175 lb sophomore from Austin, Arkansas. The Arkansas State transfer is a RHP with a wiry athletic build. Throwing from a high 3/4s arm slot, Carmack is a power pitcher with the tools to effectively dismantle any offense in college baseball. Kyler has a repeatable turn and online delivery with good extension. Carmack's low-spin fastball tops out at 96 mph that gets good carry. Carmack has the ability to throw two quality breaking balls a slider with good sweeping action and a curveball with good depth due to high spin rates on each pitch. Kyler's signature pitch is his 82-85 mph changeup with huge fade and excellent depth that will run in on right-handed batters. In Carmack's 69.2 innings of work with the Red Wolves last season, he had a 60-to-37 strikeout-to-walk ratio with a changeup that was highly regarded as the best pitch of its type in the college game. Kyler Carmack profiles as a starter and could very easily make his first start as early as Hawaii, but there are two concerns that could keep him from holding that position. Kyler must fill up the zone, and he had no problem doing so in the latter half of the fall. The biggest key to Carmack becoming an instant star for the Diamond Rebs is for him to not overthrow his heater. If Kyler Carmack can make sure to keep a good mix of his pitches and continue to pound the zone, then the former Sun Belt competitor can become a dominant SEC pitcher this season for the Rebels. Carmack's success will determine the significance of his role down the stretch and in the postseason for Ole Miss. Kyler has tools to get him to the top of the conference and become a Top 100 pitcher in the MLB Draft if he is able to continue his improvement. Carmack is likely to earn plenty of innings this season, and he will be an exciting player to watch progress as the opponents get more difficult.
Kyler Carmack is the first Arkansas State baseball player in program history to be named a NCBWA Freshman All-American.
