A few days ago, an Islamist extremist attacked St. Anthony’s Church in Jaffa, Israel. Once the identity of the perpetrator was revealed, many of those who constantly speak out about the persecution of Christians in Israel suddenly went silent.

I checked the accounts of some of the most prominent pro-Palestine voices in the West. The silence was glaring.

These are some of the same people who are rightly vocal when Israeli Jewish extremists attack Christians and churches in Israel and the West Bank. But when a Muslim extremist attacks a church, suddenly they have nothing to say.

That is not principled solidarity. That is selective outrage.

If you only care about persecuted Christians in the Holy Land when their persecutors fit your political narrative, you don’t actually care about persecuted Christians.

If you condemn Jewish extremism but look away when the perpetrator is a Muslim extremist, you’re not defending human rights, you’re defending a narrative.

A church is no less sacred because the person attacking it is Muslim. Christian victims are no less worthy of solidarity because their attacker isn’t the enemy you wanted him to be.

Condemn Jewish extremism. Condemn Islamist extremism. Condemn every attack on Christians and their churches, or any place of worship, no exceptions, no matter who’s holding the hammer.

Anything less is hypocrisy.
