Last night, Chief Community Affairs Officer Michelle Sandidge was appointed as Pillar of the Community and awarded the 2024 Creative Spark Flame at the ACH Clear Pathways Hope Gala.
Michelle has transformed the lives of many people living in the City of Pittsburgh through her work at the HACP. She began as a communications coordinator, and moved her way up to Director of Communications and Deputy Executive Director. She has been Chief Community Affairs Officer for the last 11 years.
She has spearheaded the HACP's efforts to uplift the families and residents living in HACP communities through a number of initiatives. In 1998, Michelle implemented the Clean Slate program. Initially a drug deterrent program, Clean Slate has since become the nonprofit arm of the HACP and provides college scholarships to HACP residents. Michelle has overseen the creation of the Creative Arts Corner, an audio-visual training program that is free to all HACP residents. She also established the ABK Learning and Development Center, which provides 24/7 child care for working parents.
Michelle's tireless advocacy for the residents of HACP communities has created opportunities that were once unheard of, paving the way for a brighter future.
Thank you, Michelle, and congratulations for your momentous achievements!
Thank you, @CharlandBob, and we echo the thanks to all of the first responders, staff, and those who helped today, as well as the residents who were so patient and kind!

Turns out all the young poets at Northview Heights needed to express themselves was a little rain —no shine required! Tonight, friends and family had the opportunity to experience Rain Poetry, a community poetry activity facilitated by local poets and teaching artists that allows budding creatives to express themselves through haikus that magically appear on the ground when wet.
HACP partnered with @YouthPlaces and @PAHumanities to introduce the Rain Poetry project to one of our most vibrant communities, Northview Heights.
Today was a day of celebration at Murray Towers as we honored our centenarian, Ms. Emma Alper!
Ms. Alper was born on May 5, 1924, in Orsha, a city in Vitebsk Region, Belarus, a daughter of the late Haya and Moishe (Moses) Alper.
She was a dentist in Russia for more than 40 years, and is also an accomplished pianist who still plays today (check her out in the video!).
She married the late Efim Ryzhik in 1946 and they have two children, Lina (Ryzhik) Eydinova, and Alex Ryzhik, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Ms. Alper emigrated to the United States in 1993, fleeing antisemitism in Russia.
She has lived at Murray Towers ever since.
Ms. Alper said she appreciated her celebration and will remember it always. She credits her longevity to living in the US, a country that takes great care of its older residents.
She thanked everyone for coming, and shared about her life, and how thankful she is to have been able to move here where her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren received some of the best educations and have celebrated much success.
Ms. Alper, her son, Alex, family and friends at Murray Towers were treated to cake, refreshments, and fellowship this afternoon.
A lovely proclamation by @PGHCityCouncil was also read by Councilwoman Barb Warwick (@PghDistrict5) declaring May 16, 2024 as Ms. Emma Alper Day!
Happy birthday and congratulations on reaching this milestone! The HACP staff is honored to have you as one of our longtime tenants, Ms. Alper!
Tuesday's storms led to quite the comedic adventure for our @AllGoatscape friends Wednesday evening.
The goats and Diamond the Donkey had a field day when they escaped their enclosure at the Bedford EnVision Center from a hole that was created by the storm's strong winds.
The friendly animals were eager to feel the love from staff and residents during their brief adventure!
Thanks to the help of HACP and GoatScape staff, HACP residents and local police, all goats and Diamond were safely returned to their enclosure and no injuries were reported.
The animals are on site to help clear invasive plants and brush from the EnVision Center yard, and will finish their work tomorrow, May 10.
Happy eating to our goat and donkey friends!
@pgh_scanner
They're here! @AllGoatscape arrived at the Bedford EnVision Center in the Hill District early this afternoon to help clear out overgrowth in our backyard.
Goats and even a donkey can be seen munching on the invasive plants and brush behind the center until Friday, May 10 -- unless they are super hungry and finish early!
Come and visit our goat friends and the incredible GoatScape staff through the week!

@pghDSA Reform in tenant rights? Using the same methodology that you used to calculate Ceoffe Sr’s eviction rates in 2021, MDJ Orenstein has ruled to evict 92.8% of the time 🤔 with landlords being awarded 103% of the claim amount. Woof 👀
