The next deadline from President Trump to Iran is Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
Context of the Deadline:
President Trump has issued this ultimatum in connection with the ongoing U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran (sometimes referred to as the 2025–2026 negotiations/war period).
The core demand is for Iran to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz — a critical chokepoint for about 20% of global oil and gas shipments — which Iran has largely closed amid the fighting.
If unmet, President Trump has repeatedly threatened massive U.S. strikes on Iranian power plants, bridges, and other critical infrastructure.
Updated list of estimated US losses in the 2026 US-Iran conflict (Operation Epic Fury) as of April 6–7, 2026:
- $4.8–5B+ total direct asset damage, repairs, and replacement costs (broader operational expenses significantly higher)
- 16–17 MQ-9 Reaper drones lost
- 4 F-15E Strike Eagles lost (3 in early friendly-fire incident; 1 shot down over Iran on April 3)
- 2 F-16 damaged (unconfirmed Iranian claims; limited US verification)
- 1 A-10C Warthog lost + 1 A-10C Warthog damaged (April 3 events)
- 2–3 KC-135 Stratotankers lost + 5+ KC-135 damaged
- 1 E-3 Sentry AWACS destroyed (Prince Sultan Air Base, March 27)
- 1 F-35 damaged
- 2 HH-60W Jolly Green II (or similar rescue helicopters) damaged
- 10–12+ advanced radar systems lost/damaged
- USS Gerald R. Ford carrier damaged (non-combat fire in laundry/berthing; repaired and returned to operations)
- $800M+ damage to bases/infrastructure (across ~17 regional sites)
Personnel:
- 13–15 killed
- 365–520+ wounded (majority minor; ~88% returned to duty; 10–11 seriously wounded)
- 0 MIA (F-15E crew from April 3 fully rescued by April 5)
Notes: Figures combine confirmed combat losses, accidents, friendly-fire incidents, and ground strikes from open-source and media reporting. April 3 events (F-15E, A-10s, helicopters) are the most recent major additions. Numbers continue to evolve with ongoing assessments. Total direct military costs estimated at ~$18B+ by mid-March; indirect economic costs exceed $100B in some analyses.
I expect the relief rally to continue up to the S&P 10 week moving average, and then a continuation of the downtrend should ensue. However, I’ve been wrong before.
CPI data (inflation) is being released on Friday which will incorporate the increase in oil prices for the first time.
Other economic data is being released throughout the week.
There is a lot of uncertainty with the US Iran war and Strait of Hormuz being effectively shutdown.
