@dontdelay @TorstenBell I wonder if some institutional friction is due to the batshit way the state pension is taxed. Instead of applying your tax code to the income, your code is reduced by the amount of the pension, which sort of works if the code is greater than the pension, not so much in reverse.

@NJM71 @DaveKent101 3. The triple lock should go but fixating on the 2.5% isn't useful. The chances of inflation falling below 2.5% are about nil. It would be more effective to address the unfairness of the 40-45% tax break given to wealthy pension savers. I've done well from that, but is it fair?

@NJM71 @DaveKent101 It's easy for comparatively wealthy people like us to demonise pensioners but for the 1.2m households that are mainly reliant (75%+ of income) on the state pension for survival their motivation isn't greed or entitlement, it's having enough to eat and to stay warm.

@NJM71 @moneychimp This calculation is relatively easy, HMRC lists your personal NI contributions, add a reasonable multiplier for employer contributions, select a preferred index and use historical data to work out a notional invested value.
