I’m sorry that was your experience, but as someone who loves movies. It made the experience of watching a move so much more than just pressing play. We got dressed, drove to blockbuster & browsed the aisles together or separately picking our own movies. Hoping the movie you wanted was in stock(having a backup in mind) Then we met at the snack section & grabbed popcorn & Buncha Crunch & gummy bears. We stopped & grabbed takeout on the way home & picked whose movie to watch first. It was an experience that has been minimized to browsing Netflix for 25 minutes and still not knowing what to watch, till eventually settling for watching the same show/movie you’ve seen 100x just so you can scroll on your phone 2/3 of the time.

The thing I didn't really think about until I entered industry is how often the transport loads of a structure is actually more severe than the actual use case

A very basic example: A fridge

All it does is stand in one spot

But engineers have to structurally analyze all of the components for when it gets leaned forward to load onto a truck, when it experiences vibrations as the truck drives on the highway, engineers have to make sure the circuitry can handle the decelerations if the truck brakes hard, etc etc

We take for granted how much thought gets put into items that we use everyday
