Young trees need at least 50L of water per week in order to become well-established trees in the future, which they are unlikely to get from summertime showers in the UK.
Water you local street trees today to give them the best chance at a healthy future 🌳

Today I am in Britain. We will have our bilateral talks with Keir and a meeting in the E3 plus Ukraine format: President of France Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer. Our teams have already done substantive work to prepare all the meetings. Now it is important to discuss everything and agree on the key things at the leaders’ level.
The main focus is our defense in the war, greater cooperation for the security of all of Europe in the area of air defense, and our shared view of diplomatic prospects – Europe must be part of the negotiations and must be strong. A meeting with His Majesty King Charles III is also scheduled for tomorrow.
I thank the United Kingdom and all our partners who, through real steps, are helping us strengthen the protection of life and increase pressure on Russia for its aggression. Russia must end its war.

Val McDermid turns 71 today.
In February, the Scottish crime writer warned that writers are facing a 'massive threat' from artificial intelligence.
She said: "AI can produce a certain kind of book and it is learning all the time. The only reason it can produce any books at all is because it's stolen out of all of our texts. All of our texts have been scraped.
“They have taken 150 pieces of my work, for which I've had no recompense, they’ve not asked my permission and I have no say in what they do.
“There are court cases on the way now, but it's tip of the iceberg stuff.
“There was never any point when they sought a partnership with creatives. They just stole our work and ripped us off."
The author said she was confident that writers would always have a way of writing in a way “that cannot be replicated by a machine.”
She added: “A machine can pretend to have feelings, but it doesn't have feelings and it doesn’t understand emotions at the deep level that we do that.
“Sometimes when you are reading a book and an event happens you expect the characters to behave in a particular way, but they don't.
“They respond in a different way because they are human because they have a range of possibilities.
“I think the human writer will always have a head-start on the machines for that.” 👇
You’re incredibly important. Your laughter echoes louder than any song ignites cherished memories and smiles blossom simply knowing you’re there. You’re needed and loved beyond measure and you don’t even realise it. 💜
More than 500 personnel of the State Emergency Service have been involved in dealing with the aftermath of Russia’s overnight attack on our cities and communities. The main strike was on Kyiv, where dozens of residential buildings and other purely civilian infrastructure were damaged again. Tragically, four people have been reported killed. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. At this moment, 38 people are in hospitals in the capital, and all of them are receiving the necessary care.
In Dnipro, a search and rescue operation is ongoing at the site of a four-story apartment building. Part of the building was essentially demolished. Nine people were killed in this attack, including a child. Thirty-five people were injured in the city. The fate of six more people remains unknown. The search for them will continue for as long as necessary.
The Russians also struck energy facilities in the Kharkiv region and critical infrastructure in Kharkiv. Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions also came under attack.
In total, overnight Russia launched 656 attack drones and 73 missiles of various types at our people – ballistic, cruise, and anti-ship missiles. A large-scale attack and an absolutely clear statement from Russia: if Ukraine is not protected from ballistic and other missile strikes, these attacks will continue. Europe needs its own anti-ballistic defense so that this war can finally be brought to an end. And assistance from the United States in supplying missiles for Patriot systems is absolutely necessary. We are counting on the support of our partners and on effective responses to today’s attack.
And I thank all Ukrainian men and women for not ignoring air raid alerts.
Glory to Ukraine!
You’ve got the strength to overcome any challenge this week presents! Trust in yourself and let’s make it a triumphant week! 💪💜 #MondayVibes#YouCanDoIt 🌟👊
Every 40 seconds, a light is dimmed by suicide, each loss echoing unspoken battles.
For every heart we lose, many more wrestle in silence, calling us to hear, to hold space, and to build a world where hope burns brighter than pain.
We held a special meeting on our next steps.
First – diplomacy. We are in contact almost every day with envoys of the President of the United States and our European partners. We noted how the situation with air defense supplies – and our arrangements more broadly – unfolds. We set priorities for the coming weeks: antiballistic capabilities, bilateral documents on drone production and supply – including a Drone Deal with the European Union – and preparations for meetings in several formats. We are preparing for important negotiations – for now, without public details.
Second – we must continue the humanitarian track, the exchanges that had already been agreed upon. I instructed the team to contact partners who can now help step up the necessary mediation.
Third – there will be new decisions in support of Ukraine, including for our energy sector. We are finalizing the details. Glory to Ukraine!

We discussed with President of the European Commission Ursula @vonderLeyen work on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, above all antiballistic potential. Europe has the relevant capabilities, and we discussed this in particular as part of our cooperation with the EU on the Drone Deal track. Thank you, Ursula, for supporting this format. Importantly, our teams are actively working, and already there are countries ready to join.
We also spoke about Ukraine’s path to EU membership. We are fully ready for the opening of all six negotiation clusters and count on opening the first cluster – Fundamentals – already in June. It is equally important that the first tranche from the European support package is delivered as soon as possible. A date has been set – and we hope everything will be implemented exactly as agreed. Thank you!
