@effinglibrarian@AP_Oddities Appraised value from the tax office, and market value of the property, tend to be two different numbers. ...even ridiculously different, in some cases.
@RexAmericanum@michellemalkin Given the uproar that occurred after Trump said troops were being withdrawn from Syria, it's likely that the democrats would impeach him for national security reasons, if he announced a plan to withdraw from the Middle East.
@LariGer@corve_chris@ABC A US gunboat had previously gotten mixed up in the hostilities in China. There was also the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers) which provided some air defense for China. Economic sanctions were also used...
@Robert33Hall @ABC He wasn't the only member of their military leadership that cautioned against attacking the US. The divide seemed to be drawn along the lines of those who had toured the US and seen the resources and manufacturing capability, and those who had never visited the US.
@ABC I think this is the first time I have seen 'video evidence' of F4U Corsairs being used by the Japanese in 1941. They even appear to not be the early versions of the F4U.
@KamKoala@gunpolicy @Jeff80754092 Sadly, it's because there are so many of these cases. Even with the lower courts working to resolve some of them before they get to the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court decides to hear only a fraction of the cases that they are requested to hear.
@MissBrandyGreen@CNN From what I've read about past incidents of polar bears wandering around villages in that region, citizens can be prosecuted if they harm the bears. Only government appointed people can do anything more than go inside and lock the doors.
@Yumbaldeh1@no_scooters@desertbunny6@NBCNews Seems he was assigned 'watch duty', essentially assigned to be a security guard on one of the vessels that was there for maintenance, from what I've read.
@PuddlesSo @NBCNews They were effectively banned on military bases in the US, in the 1990s. Some are saying that the shootings that have occurred on those bases are reason enough to reconsider that ban and allow troops to defend themselves.
@ScrewTrump7 @X62048239 @ABC Depends on your definition of "mass shooting".
In Chicago alone, there have been 436 shot and killed this year, along with 2136 shot and wounded.
@ScrewTrump7 @X62048239 @ABC So you think that a person should face restrictions on their actions, based on their intelligence? Smart people allowed to do more, but stupid people limited in what they can do?
I can just imagine the ACLU's reaction to that.
@ScrewTrump7 @X62048239 @ABC Gun stores require a currently valid, government issued photo ID. The purchaser also has to fill out and sign a government form, which can result in criminal charges if any information on the form is incorrect. The store then submits the buyer's information to the FBI's NICS.
@ScrewTrump7 @X62048239 @ABC ACLU has expressed concern over background checks, and opposed adding mental health records of veterans to the database used for gun purchase background checks.

@ScrewTrump7 @X62048239 @ABC The Ft Hood shooter passed the background check when he purchased the gun at a gun store in Killeen, a few months before the shooting. Gun stores have been required (by federal law) to do background checks on gun purchases, since 1993.
@ScrewTrump7@ABC If an individual is doing the evaluations, then that individual knows what they need to do for their own evaluation to have the results they want.
From reports of the Ft Hood shooting, the guns were smuggled onto the base, by the shooter.
