@ShangYang2@CarlZha I think you're missing the point. The point is that 楚庄王 has the wisdom to come up with the idiom "止戈为武" despite him misinterpreting the origin of the character "武" at the time. Carl's post is written from the perspective of the king, so he's not wrong either.
@lido_tops30276@CarlZha Funny you say that while the current regime (DPP) in Taiwan is erasing Taiwanese history by claiming that Japanese are their ancestors.

Chinese idiom 止戈为武 is a reference to a 2600 yr old quote by my ancestor, King Zhuang of Chu 楚庄王 who led Chu army to crush the army of Jin state, the hegemon of the Spring & Autumn Period in the battle of Bi 邲之战 in 597BC.
His advisors suggested that they build a pyramid of heads 京观 of fallen Jin soldiers to display for martial prowess for posterity. King Chuang responded the character 武 (Martial) is made up of 止 (stop) and 戈 (dagger-axe). The highest martial virtue is to stop wars. Jin solders died honorably to implement their lord's orders, they committed no crimes, they don't deserved to have their bodies desecrated.
King Zhuang went on to be the greatest King of Chu, becoming the new hegemon of Chinese states.
300 yrs later in 306BC, Chu crushed the Yue state and annexed all of Yue territory from Shandong peninsula down to Qiantang river north of present-day Hangzhou.
According to Song Dynasty book 百家姓 "book of hundred names", a Chu royal prince was enfeoffed on a captured Yue land called Zha. His fief Zha became the family name of his descendants. That's the origin of my family Zha of Haining 海宁查氏.
@iloveparadise_@CarlZha This is what feminism should've been all about. Not the fake ass feminism that belittles the other gender to uplift themselves.
@fawzy_hakim@zhao_dashuai However, I disagree with the article regarding Vietnam allying with the US strategically. Vietnam is a much more sovereign country than the Philippines. It knows engaging in a hot war with its neighbor would be fatal. Why would they do that for the US' sake?
@fawzy_hakim@zhao_dashuai I'm an overseas Chinese and I'd like to thank you for sharing this piece of article. It has certainly helped me to understand the history of my motherland better.
