They would have been given home care, or placement in a care home whilst they were sorted out.
Now it's all dependent on cost. If the client either refuses to pay or if they won't go into a care home, hospital is the place of safety.
@SkyNews Bless you, David. Make sure you are fully aware about the surgery and think a lot before you go ahead with it. Prepare before you go for it and make provision if you struggle with mobility or upper limb function.

@ImRobWalker Fill in the time with necessary activities and knowing she wanted you to do that. Then you will weep, then remember happy events and you will smile. As time passes you do more smiling than weeping. It's OK to do both, darlin'.

I still have my name on my trumpet case and mutes done with this. It was hellish good glue. They've been on there for 50 years.
@wat_thee_deuce_ I had a 2nd hand one when I was a student in my flat. It was great. I now have a Dyson and a battery powered one. I still like the plug in ones best.
The battery one clogs up regularly.
