Adding to this, even the games with the least amount of gameplay, like Visual Novels are better experienced by playing rather than a video. You control the pacing how you read, you control the volume, you control where you start/stop at for each day. It all forms the experience.
@ToomiYuna Actually it's like saying you can be a fan of a book by listening to an audio book, which is absolutely true and was settled a while ago in the literature community. It's actually quite funny that you would make this comparison when it goes against your point so much.
People saying that you don't have to play videogames to be a fan of them is like saying "I don't have to be a fan of a book and read it, I can just watch a video essay on it"
Define "dated", technical limitiations? Remakes can be good or bad, but this doesn't take away from the intentionality of their original source material
"Don't be dismissive towards tour fanbase" Oh my god you people are such fucking treatlers, it's incredible. Every "fandom" should be dismissed by every author possible.
Once again begging people to stop thinking that watching more anime/reading manga = "having better taste" whatever that means. Even if it wasn't subjective, purely consuming isn't enough to give you any real ability to get the "good taste" (again I hate that notion to begin with
I hate people who will accuse you of something but won't say it directly. "Pretty weird that x happened like that?" Don't be a coward and tell me directly.
I feel the disconnect is that many people are trying to find ways to get others interested in things they genuinely care about that aren't necessarily easy to sell.
I feel like those who've "mastered the yt algo" would probably avoid making that type of content altogether.
Really can't imagine anything worse as a creator than having these sorts of guys as your "fans". Always ready to tear you down at any moment, complaining that the thing you made isn't good enough but still being "fans" regardless.
Also actual spoiler in the OP if you care lol.
dangerous opinion:
there's lots of great older anime. you should watch more older anime.
but new anime? also lots of greatness. heaps of great new things going on. you should also watch more new anime.
and so goes for manga, too!!!! embrace everything!
You will read more good 'old' series than new ones 'new' ones because you don't have to wade through the bullshit of what will be critically reevaluated to have sucked in 10 years
an unfortunate amount of people in the anime and manga space are afflicted with chronic "fucking lazy" and expect to be spoonfed recommendations rather than looking for themselves, and this latest bout of "adult romance" is just the same old shit
