Coaches: As practice begins, & you are getting ready for Game 1 a few weeks from now, are you covering every possible “special situation” you can? Here is how we kept track of it during the preseason.
Donovan Clingan on Dan Hurley and UConn’s coaching staff and preparing them for the NBA: “They prepared us at the highest level. We practiced 11 months out of the year and they pushed us to our maxed every single day.”

Freshman Taylor Bol Bowen made the most of his limited minutes, acting as a key piece in a big conference win on Tuesday.
The 6’10” wing has excellent length and great fluidity for his size, and his energy and activity level only increase the impact of both. There may not have been a single player who, end-to-end, brought a higher level of enthusiasm, intensity, and motor, and it helped him make a huge difference along the margins.
Whether he was making plays on or off the ball, he had a loud defensive outing with three steals and one block. The most notable of which involved him picking up the opposing PG, locking him down, and then stripping him. He also used his length to wreak havoc on inbound passers.
Offensively, he made some good connective passes and operated well as a passer and leaker in transition. His jumper was also hitting in this one — he made a spot-up 3 and later went on to attack a closeout and rise into an impressive mid-range PUJ.
While the production may not be consistent enough for him to be a mainstay in 2024 draft talks, Taylor Bol Bowen is a major name to watch as a potential NBA prospect.

- Displayed his impact on both sides of the floor — turning defense to offense with his ability to run the floor well and protecting the rim.
- Knocked down his 1st 3PT of the season (1/4 overall) on a wide open look at the top of the key — still very low volume but was fun to see Clingan knock it down.
- At 7’2” 280lbs, Clingan is light on his feet and is able to move smoothly especially when he’s the weakside defender and PnR roll man.
