The commemorative stamp celebrates the historic 1866 publication of a book compiled by Christian Kauder, a Luxembourgish missionary who lived and worked with the Mi'kmaq in Atlantic Canada. Printed in Vienna, the book preserved traditional, visual symbols (hieroglyphs) historically used for passing on knowledge and prayer.
