As a former people pleaser, I’ve come to the conclusion that not only is it not the end of the world when you disappoint someone, but there’s also a sense of relief knowing that they will not be relying on you moving forward. Freeing actually.
You can’t force anyone to change. We have a fantasy that if we just explain to someone how they’re hurting us, they’ll want to change. Accountability is an inside job. People must choose it.
