Analyzing Canadian newspaper articles from 2015-2020, @Tori_Banderob described coverage of the HPV vaccine.
Her findings provide insight for future work on how news framing impacts public opinion on vaccine safety and efficacy, ultimately influencing buy-in and behaviour change
When designed effectively, data can tell some pretty wild stories! 📈🎨Spent the day with @mccandelish delving into data visualizations in an @infobeautiful virtual workshop. Highly recommend joining one of his next ones! #dataviz#scicomm

So important! Starting off in your career, it can be hard to estimate the time it will take to complete these projects...it’s a challenge that I’m still navigating. Another aspect is convincing clients of the time needed to complete a project.
Most of the work in #SciComm is done during prep and behind the scenes. If something seems effortless, a lot of work has gone into it.
For ex, an infographic that takes 5 minutes to read requires 60+ hours to create.
It's important to be asked to be paid fairly!

Thanks for the shout out, @fowlersamanthaa!! The media plays a critical role in the public perception of vaccines...I'm excited to gain a fuller understanding on #HPVvaccine communication in Canada #SciComm
Journalism, public opinion, & policy are greatly intertwined. @Tori_banderob, MSComm student with @LUSciComm is researching how the HPV vaccine is communicated in Cndn news & whether the framing & tone has changed over time, since its approval in 2006. #HPVvaccine#Vaccineswork
Are "flatten the curve" and "practice social distancing" really the most accessible ways to communicate to the widest audience what behaviours they need to change during this time of crisis? Be clear, specific, and concrete #scicomm#COVID19
Agar art — painting with microbes! 🦠🎨 We used yeast to draw the image and some other bacteria joined the party making the glossy bits. Thanks @AmandaOVeri and @SciCommTO for this cool experiment / art project! #scicomm#SciArt
Today @LaurentianU is the #SciArt exhibition! So many incredible artists have contributed—it's really amazing to see the creativity and talent at the intersection of science and art. I've displayed some pieces that were inspired by urban gardens and ravines in Toronto! #scicomm
