Our Yr 9 historians have had the opportunity to visit the WW1 battlefields. Travelling to Belgium to visit significant landmarks from the Great War, including Ypres, the Somme, the Hooge Museum and experiencing the front-line environment by walking through a reconstructed trench.
Our Remembrance Day assembly focused on The Royal British Legion's theme of 'Service'. We remembered the service given by children in WW1, as underage soldiers, farm and factory workers, Scouts, Girl Guides and the sacrifices made due to the separation of families and grief.
We recently had a guest speaker from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to deliver a talk to our KS3 students. The session speaker Mike Dawson, provided an overview of their organisation from past to present with reference to the sites and casualties they care for. @CWGC
