This is properly insane: quite literally the worst example of censorship I've ever heard of anywhere.

I checked the actual ruling (which you can see here: https://t.co/dBKFWZ2ZWm) and, to be clear, it isn't just censorship in the conventional sense - blocking access to a website or removing content from platforms - this is the criminalization of information relayed by private citizens, with prison sentences attached.

And the most insane aspect if that it does NOT matter if the information relayed is accurate or not. It just matters that it originates from RT or other media outlets banned in the EU.

In other words, truth isn't a defense anymore in the EU, it literally doesn't matter. It's purely based on the identity of the speaker.

The ruling is actually explicit about this: the regulation, quoted by the Court says that the prohibition applies to "any content," and they draw no distinction based on what the content actually says. If it originates from banned outlets, it's banned.

It is, quite simply, a complete unraveling of the entire post-Enlightenment legal and philosophical project where entire generations of Europeans fought to move from "who says it" to "is it true" as the operative question.

Think about the absurdity of it: if RT publishes a video saying the sky is blue and you share it on a publicly accessible website in the EU, you'd fall within the scope of this ruling, making you liable to criminal prosecution.

Completely and utterly absurd. But that's the EU today for you 🤷

it it found a 27 yo vulnerability in openBSD which is considered one of the most security hardened OS on earth, a 16 yo vulnerability in FFmpeg in a line of code that automated testing tools had hit 5 million times without catching it & it autonomously chained multiple linux kernel vulnerabilities together to escalate from regular user to full system control, this is the kind of work that used to require elite nation-state level hackers working for months
and here’s what should keep you up tonight

Anthropic is so terrified of what this model can do offensively that they made 3 unprecedented decisions simultaneously, they decided to never release it publicly, they contacted the US gov before publishing anything & they formed a coalition called project glasswing with apple/Google/ microsoft/amazon NVIDIA & 40+ other companies to use Mythos exclusively for defense, when the company that built the model is too scared to let it out of the lab that tells you everything about what we’ve crossedd…

but I think the real story that absolutely nobody is discussing is the second order implication, if anthropic built this then google deepmind can build it, if Google can build it China can build it, if China can build it , every state actor on earth will eventually build it, anthropic chose responsible disclosure but that choice is a luxury of being first

the next team that reaches this capability level might not make the same choice and once a model like this leaks or gets independently replicated every piece of software on earth becomes a potential attack surface

and connect this to the Google quantum paper from last week, quantum computers that can crack BTC in 9 min AND AI models that can find zero days in every operating system autonomously, both arrived in the same month, we’re watching the entire security infrastructure of human civilization get challenged from 2 completely different directions simultaneously

I genuinely think we just entered a new era where the offense-defense balance in cybersecurity has permanently shifted, the window between a vulnerability existing & being discovered just went from years to minutes and the only thing standing between the current internet and total chaos is that the people who built this capability happened to be responsible about it, that is an incredibly thin line to bet civilization on

one last thing that I keep thinking about… mythos scored 93.9% on SWE-bench verified & 77.8% on SWE-bench pro, it outperforms every model ever built at coding and reasoning by a massive margin

anthropic built built the most powerful AI model on earth and chose to lock it in a cage because its offensive capabilities are too dangerous…

this is insane. A day after their stealth edit removal of an "Iranian source" telling them that they want Iran to be "levelled" and nuked, the BBC has added a note admitting they removed it, and that the quote was fabricated. But they still kept the "source" in the piece. Ghoncheh Habibiazad is their Senior Reporter on Iran, and needs to be fired immediately for having fabricated a quote to justify and launder the nuking of Iran right as Trump is threatening it. Raffi Berg, who is the editor of their Middle-East coverage and approved this fabrication also needs to be fired. Minimal journalistic standards and ethics demand this.

Guillou's daily existence has been transformed into a Kafkaesque nightmare. He cannot: open or maintain accounts with Google, Amazon, Apple, or any US company; make hotel reservations (Expedia canceled his booking in France hours after he made it); conduct online commerce, since he can't know if the packaging is American; use any major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex are all American); access normal banking services, even with non-American banks, as banks worldwide close sanctioned accounts; conduct virtually any financial transaction.

He describes it as being "economically banned across most of the planet," including in his own country, France, and where he works, the Netherlands.

That's the real shocking aspect of this: the Americans are:
- punishing a European citizen
- for doing his job in Europe
- applying laws Europe officially supports
- at an institution based in Europe
- that Europe helped create and fund

and Europe is not only doing essentially nothing to protect him, they're actively enforcing America's sanctions against their own citizen - European banks closing his accounts, European companies refusing him service, European institutions standing by while Washington destroys a European judge's life on European soil.

Again, in a normal world, European leaders and citizens should be absolutely outraged about this. But we've so normalized the hollowing out of European sovereignty that the sight of a European citizen being economically executed on European soil for upholding European law is treated, at best, as an unfortunate technical complication in transatlantic relations.
