Sam Henshaw Ibiam, Nigeria's first goalkeeper, did not concede a single goal in eight of the nine years he represented Nigeria. In fact, in all his nine years, the Black Magnet conceded just five goals. #HistoryVille
🚨🇵🇹 PORTUGAL AND THE THEORY OF FORMAT CHANGES
Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal has a remarkable history of thriving when major international competitions introduce new formats:
🏆 EURO 2016: First European Championship with 24 teams.
✅ Portugal won the tournament.
🏆 UEFA Nations League 2019: Inaugural edition of the competition.
✅ Portugal won the tournament.
🏆 UEFA Nations League 2025: First edition to feature a quarter-final stage.
✅ Portugal won the tournament.
Whenever the format changes, Portugal seems to find a way to make history.
World Cup 2026? 👀
We were delighted to present Gilbert Martina, the President of the Curaçao Football Federation, the certificate for the smallest country by population to qualify for the FIFA World Cup - 156,115 people 🇨🇼
You may be wondering why it's possible for teams to replace players in their squad even after the World cup has started.
The truth is that ational teams cannot simply recall or swap players whenever they feel like it once the World Cup is underway.
Here is how it works.
According to the Regulations, every nation is required to submit a provisional squad of up to 55 players.
From that pool, they are then to name a final 26, including at least three goalkeepers, on or before FIFA's official deadline.
Once that final squad is locked in, the freedom to make changes almost disappears.
For outfield players, a replacement is only permitted in the case of serious injury or illness, and only up to 24 hours before the team's FIRST match. The replacement must come from that original provisional list, and it requires FIFA Medical Committee approval with proper documentation.
After that 24-hour cutoff, the outfield squad will have to remain unchanged for the entire tournament, group stage through to the final. Any player that gets injured at that point will stay registered but cannot be replaced by another player that's not on the squad list.
Goalkeepers are the exception. Because three keepers are so essential, a goalkeeper can be replaced at any stage of the competition if he is unfit.
We have just seen the outfield rule in action. England lost Tino Livramento to injury before their opener against Croatia and brought in Trevoh Chalobah, who was on standby. It was allowed precisely because it fell inside the 24-hour window.
It's fair, but it's also unforgiving.
I hope you have learned something today.

Before the World Cup, Vozinha had just 50K followers on Instagram. After his incredible masterclass against Spain, that number exploded to 𝟱.𝟴 𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡 (!!!) 😳🇨🇻
Tim Payne had only 4,715 Instagram followers and was described as “the most unknown player of the World Cup.” He became one of the tournament’s biggest names, reaching 𝟱.𝟴 𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡 followers as well 😲🇳🇿
Both were players many fans had never even heard of before. But now they are two of the most talked-about names of the tournament 🤝
As a reference, Cape Verde has a total population of around 500K, while New Zealand has around 5.3M people 😅
Only the World Cup can do this 😍
❤️ Heartwarming story in football!
⚽ Yasin Ayari scores for Sweden against Tunisia… but his Tunisian father Azzouz encouraged him to represent Sweden instead.
🇸🇪 When Tunisia called in 2021, Yasin was ready to switch — yet his dad insisted: Sweden welcomed them and helped shape their future.
🙏 No celebration from Yasin out of deep respect. Pure class!
👫 Family, gratitude, and loyalty on full display.
Besonderer Moment!

🚨 Joint-statement from Cape Verde, Curaçao, Uzbekistan, Congo, Haiti, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa and Côte d’Ivoire expressing their “profound disappointment” following the recent comments made by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin arguing the expanded World Cup will create “uninteresting” games.
“We respectfully but firmly reject these comments.
“For our countries, there is no such thing as an unimportant World Cup match.
“For Cape Verde, Curaçao and Uzbekistan, qualification for the FIFA World Cup represents a historic achievement and the realization of a dream shared by generations.
“For nations such as Congo and Haiti, returning to football’s biggest stage after a long absence carries a special meaning for millions of supporters who have waited years, and in some cases decades, for this moment.
“To suggest that these matches are somehow less important is deeply disappointing and fails to recognize the efforts, sacrifices and aspirations of players, coaches, clubs, football leaders and supporters across the world.
“Behind every qualification stand years of work and investment. Behind every national team stand entire communities and millions of people who see football as a source of pride, hope and unity.
“Football does not belong to a select group of nations. Its strength comes from its universality. The FIFA World Cup is the world’s greatest football competition precisely because it brings together different cultures, different histories and different football journeys.
“For many countries, participation in the FIFA World Cup is not only a sporting achievement. It is a moment that inspires a generation, accelerates football development and creates memories that last a lifetime.
“We believe that every nation that qualifies deserves respect. Every team has earned its place on merit. Every supporter has the right to dream. Every match carries meaning for millions of people around the world.
“We therefore reject the UEFA President’s comments and reaffirm our belief that the growth of football must continue to create opportunities, inspire new generations and strengthen the truly global nature of our game.
“Every team qualified on merit.
“Every match matters.”
