Please could the Thames Valley Police allow people into the Oxford Union. Protesters are blocking the entrances while law and order is not being upheld.
Glad the NS finally recognises this!
Joshi Herrmann: “Without meaning to, McTague has sent the media on a wild goose chase for a political programme that doesn’t exist, from a man who is known for not having one.”
Manchesterism is not socialism. Andy Burnham’s city is a neoliberal metropolis.
“Manchesterism” is a contradiction. Rather the city representing a break with neoliberalism, Manchester appears in many ways to be an exemplar case. In the 19th century the Germans had a term for laissez-faire free trade liberalism. They called it Manchesterthum, or “Manchesterism” – the ideology of the factory owners and shopkeepers who ran the city in the interests of industrial capital. Far from a new vision of socialism, might today’s “Manchesterism” instead be a cousin of that ideology?

Treasury source suggests that John Healey was, in effect, asking for cuts to schools and hospitals to pay for extra uplift in defence spending.
"The chancellor will always do what is right and needed to keep this country safe, you can see that from her actions - a record uplift in defence spending at the spending review, and then working alongside the PM deliver billions more to fund the DIP".
Military procurement is the worst taxpayer value of any major spending. You obviously resolve that before spending even more.
But these people just want a % for press releases. Same 🤡 politics as the last 25 years.
NEW: Andy Burnham has hinted at a new multibillion-pound spending commitment if he becomes PM, saying that more than 3.5mn women “deserve” compensation over what he regards as a pension scandal
Earlier I attended a Makerfield hustings event hosted by @MENnewsdesk, in which Burnham said: “I stick by campaigners that I support. I stuck by the Hillsborough families, I’ll stick by the Waspi women because they deserve some recompense for the unfairness.”
Stressing he wouldn’t ditch his longterm support for Waspi women, he said he felt “uncomfortable” that some politicians threw their support behind a cause but then went into government and “didn’t do anything”

Punchy comments from Lucy Powell at Think Labour tonight. I hear she spoke about politics being dominated by “three men”, said women in politics don’t have time to “write essays”, and argued they are often left to clear up the mess...
A poorly thought through duty of candour would have disastrous consequences which the state already cannot bear. Time and again Burnham just does not appear up to it.

“I doubt Elon Musk could even point to Belfast on a map.”
@Lewis_Goodall calls out the 'tech oligarch' for ‘fanning the flames’ of a riot in a city he ‘knows nothing about’.
