جندي أمريكي سابق خدم في جيش الولايات المتحدة لمدة 25 عام يحكي قصة ذهابه إلى غزة لتقديم الطعام للمدنيين الذين يتضورون جوعاً وكان من بين��م طفل عمره قرابة 5 سنوات اسمه (أمير) أتى من مسافة 12 كيلومتر مشياً على الأقدام ليأخذ فتات من الطعام وعندما استلم أمير الطعام قبّل يد الجندي وشكره ثم استدار ليعود لمنزله لكن أطلق عليه جيش الاحتلال النار ومات الصغير على الفور.

There are those fishing in troubled waters both inside Syria and here in America. The violations that have occurred grant them momentum that serves their own interests. Everything that has happened and will happen will ultimately be blamed on the government, regardless of who is responsible, so clarification is necessary.

Syria was liberated from a brutal, oppressive, and tyrannical dictatorship in just 11 days. Not a single drop of civilian blood was shed. The only blood spilled was that of those who fought for its liberation. The liberators openly declared: “Go, you are free.” The people, wounded and oppressed for decades, chose to endure their suffering, conspired against their own grievances and the blood of their lost ones, accepted their fate, and remained silent.

The government proceeded with the necessary steps: A National Dialogue Conference was held, a committee was formed to draft a constitutional declaration, and the president announced his plan to hold fair elections, referring to himself as a servant of the people. All of this was happening in the midst of a suffocating economic crisis due to U.S. sanctions that were imposed on the Assad regime and have not been lifted even after its downfall. To this day, no institution or group can send money to Syria because it remains isolated from the SWIFT banking system. This economic situation has left two-thirds of the population below the hunger line.

While the revolution granted general amnesty, and there were no significant arrests except under immense public pressure from the families of the martyrs, remnants of the regime regrouped in the coastal mountains, receiving support from Iran and possibly Hezbollah. They launched a military operation against the new state in the Syrian coast aimed at division and spreading chaos. They slaughtered worshippers in mosques, stormed hospitals, and ambushed security forces. The first ambush alone claimed the lives of 13 young men from the best of Syria’s youth, and more than 300 martyrs fell in the battle.

Despite the revolution’s amnesty and the government’s restraint in arrests, remnants of the regime continued to gather in the coastal mountains, receiving support from Iran and possibly Hezbollah. They launched a bloody campaign, killing worshippers in mosques, storming hospitals, and ambushing security forces—resulting in 13 martyrs from Syria’s finest youth. They murdered a woman simply because she was wearing a hijab, gouged out the eyes of a security officer before killing him, and burned alive members of the Military Police who were protecting churches.

What happened in Syria was an attempted coup by pro-Assad elements, supported by Iran. They launched a strong attack through ambushes, resulting in the killing and capture of hundreds of Syrian security forces who were stationed at their security points to maintain peace and stability in Latakia and Tartus. They then killed dozens of civilians who were in the streets and refused to join them.

Afterward, Syrians in other cities felt that their country was in danger and could fall again under the control of Iran and Assad's militias. Therefore, they went, either individually or collectively, to the Syrian coast to defend their land and the Syrian state, supporting the security forces in thwarting the coup.

During this chaos, some individuals and armed groups took advantage of the situation to kill and steal. The Syrian state announced that it would punish anyone who committed crimes against civilians and began to implement that.

Syria was facing a difficult coup attempt, but it was thwarted.
