The first major Gundam OVA series, beginning March 25, 1989 Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Gundam franchise.
Directed by Fumihiko Takayama, and scripted by Gainax’s Hiroyuki Yamaga, the series takes an unconventional route focusing on a young boy’s naïveté and fantasy of the One Year War as he learns the reality of its ramifications. The series featured characters designs by Haruhiko Mikimoto and mechanical designs by Yutaka Izubuchi.
