Laughed reading that he’ll sign a 6 year deal like, should have the caveat next to it of ‘which won’t be worth the paper it’s written on’. Good riddance to Alex the rat. Once revered amongst the Geordie faithful, now remembered for all the wrong reasons. A legacy forever tainted

NUFC lose. Isak & Liverpool win. Simple as that.

Newcastle had little choice, in reality, but to do a deal, as it became an untenable situation. A bad smell that would have lingered all season. The money is good, as a trade off - not game-changing, due to sell on % and other factors - but good. The timing poor.

While choice was forced from them in selling, they definitely DO have a choice about signing a striker today. And must. That has to be a non-negotiable.

If they don't - and varying levels of responsibility and decision-making for this filters from the top right down to Eddie Howe - they're letting the current crop of players down.

Their incoming business, while very expensive, has looked positive so far, none more so than the capture of Nick Woltemade to clearly fill Isak's void.

However, expecting a young lad, with only a true half season of top level, regular experience under his belt, no PL appearances, fresh through the door, to carry the scoring and creative burden of the whole XI across three competitions, all the way to at least January, is irresponsible. In fact, it's lunacy.

Isak is gone. It had to happen. And while his talents are a loss, it won't be mourned as it may once have been.

The real challenge now is ensuring Woltemade is not forced to play midweek, weekend, week after week - which happened to Isak at times - from now to the winter. NUFC cannot continue the season with one striker - another has to be signed. The clock is ticking. And it feels definitive.
