@DTSB_98 Yup. This place is unusual most of the time. But not everyone is over there so there is definitely a degree of "x person said this" then I have to flip over here to confirm. But I can't say I'm missing the constant ads or the bots.
I'm as happy as the next guy that Dubas didn't immediately go and fix the pens (embarrassing the leafs in the process) but I kinda still think the karlsson trade was good tbh. It's been pretty much every other move that's been horrible.
@AustonWhite3 Ha I think prospects are different. They are so far removed from what they will ultimately become. As far as free agents go, I've gone "yup. That makes sense" so many times when Dubas signed a guy (including Jarry) and it just kept falling to pieces.
@Mosboss27 It's tough. It was a long shot. But, ultimately, ownerships, the fans, the players, etc. didn't want to trade off the core that brought them 3 cups. They want them to retire pens. Not sure what choice there was/is. Also not sure I'd think any different if I was a pens fan.
@AustonWhite3 I think he did a better job finding contributing depth on the leafs than the pens. If there is something that's been the same, it's that he made a bet on a goalie with a decent stat profile and it has fallen apart. If there is a talent to picking goalies, he doesn't have it.
@Mosboss27 Yup. They were justifiable and I can't say I could have done better but, when you take a job at that point in the window, you accept that you don't have room for many misses.
@Mosboss27 Yeah they'd rather have the pick than karlsson because the rest of their moves sank them and they aren't looking like they'll be able to use what's left of his premium hockey play (at least this season). But Karlsson, in a vacuum, was worth the return imo.
Given where the pens stars are at, they really needed some over-contributing depth and they haven't gotten it. The Jarry goalie bet (albeit justifiable) hasn't worked. Which, if we're being honest, is not the first time that's happened with Dubas.
He's definitely declining. But so is the rest of their team. He fits the same window as the rest of their declining stars so I don't think it's that big a deal to have one more ticking time bomb. Karlsson's play is still a net positive and not by just a little imo.
@Leafer1984 Yup. For sure. I think other guys have been way farther below my expectations/hopes so he isn't generally earning my ire. Domi looks to have taken a step back for example and also isn't scoring, while making 4.5x more...
