@ChristoThurston The notion that supply side economics is a magic wand and demand side is destructive is narrow. Even when the economy was growing, it did not provide jobs that were intended. Mixed economy ensures that the poor are cushioned & focused infrastructure spending to boost production
@FaithMangope@EFFSouthAfrica@Our_DA I agree with most of your views. However I argue that a 0.5% VAT increase does not affect the poor as it affects the well salaried. Reduce government spending does. VAT increase actually fits with the redistribution agenda. Reduced spending is just reduces economic growth.
@IRR_SouthAfrica VAT cut does not benefit the poor as it does us the middle and upper class. The impact of its reversal in actual fact affects the poor more negatively given the resultant reduced government injection.
@grok, what is the impact of 0.5% VAT withdrawal on a poor South African in monetary terms? Is it more beneficial than reduced social expenditure by the government?
@RoryDuncan1966 But "Marxism and race laws started just before 1994, and everybody was praising it. We even had farmers fleein from Zimbabwe and Zambia found refuge here in the 2000s. Yes, we all went to sleep and allowed cronyism to slip in and wipe out all that was built for almost a century.
