The Barberspan Bird Monitoring Team accompanied by Umbuso and Unisa Students alongside Mafikeng Rangers and the Acting Boskop Dam Nature Reserve Manager attended a Bird Training Workshop at Random Harvest Nursery in Johannesburg on Saturday 6th June 2026.

UMBUSO students did not only learn about the Barberspan Bird Santuary Nature Reserve birdlife but also aquatic monitoring. During aquatic monitoring, students are shown how to collect data samples, analyse the data on the quality & health of aquatic ecosystems of Barberspan Dam.
Umbuso Students from four of @TourismNW reserves namely SA Lombard Nature, Molemane Eye Nature, Boskop Dam Nature & Barberspan Bird Sanctuary alongside students from UNISA already placed at Barberspan arrived yesterday, for in house bird identification and ringing.
