Week 2 Nature project update
Become United know how important it is for children to learn the love for nature at a young age. Over the past 2 weeks weโve been using the lovely community garden at Lees Park Oldham learn and enjoy nature, from bug hunting to tasting new herbs.
Yesterday we held a men's walk lead course, where attendees learnt about route planning, risk assessments, how to prepare for walks and more!
We know ethnic communities don't walk enough so this course was done for people within the community to lead walks & encourage others
One of the many barriers within our community is fear of dogs!
So what better way of overcoming those fears than having therapy dogs walking alongside us. Maggie and Ron were the friendliest therapy dogs who loved all the attention they got.
Week 1 of our Nature project today was great, with two sessions including one for children with Down syndrome (first of its kind)
Lees garden hosted a wonderful Nature session with a mix of activities. We picked our own herbs, learnt about bugs, frogs and newts!
