@MichaelLamberta It was meant to be part of the COVID deterrent which protected capacity in the NHS. We equally have a similar crisis looming in social care for which a fraction of this sort of money would help build capacity and stave off a similar anticipated collapse of our health system.

@drjanetownson I wonder what the term is for the opposite of investment - waste? The government will pay for it fourfold when the issues manifest themselves in the NHS, police and criminal justice systems. Bonkers economic strategy and I feel very sad for those it will impact the most.

I’m finding it a bit rich listening to NHS and LA commissioners pay their own support staff circa £17-£18 per hour in some areas and then claim poverty when we ask for increases in fees just so we can pay RLW.

Great analogy. Arguably when it comes to seeking better outcomes and lives for people maybe Social Care and NHS should be viewed the other way round. They are certainly both essential for a healthy nation (and economy).

Keep going, we are nearly there to asking the public if they really wanted what we’ve been stuck with. This will accelerate as the ESF runs off.
