..."Baby One More Time" is the single from Britney Spears' eponymous debut album, released in January 1999. Max Martin originally wrote the song with the title "Hit Me Baby One More Time" and offered it first to TLC, which refused because he thought the line "Hit Me" sounded like a reference to domestic violence. Jive Records changed the title to avoid this association and 16-year-old Britney recorded vocals in May 1998 at Cheiron Studios in Stockholm.

The video was directed by Nigel Dick and filmed at Venice High School in Los Angeles.

The track became the first #1 of Britney's career on the Billboard Hot 100 (two weeks at the top in January 1999), reached the top in more than 20 countries, sold more than 10 million copies worldwide as a single, and was one of the biggest global hits of 1999.
