South Africa delays licensing Starlink year after year, and rural communities pay the price, falling further behind on commerce, logistics, and jobs, all to protect a layer of regulatory middlemen who add no real value.

Broadband isn't a luxury anymore. It's a factor of production, as fundamental to a modern economy as electricity or roads.

You can't build a modern economy by gatekeeping basic infrastructure, and blocking Starlink over ownership quotas is a clear case of politics winning out over capital efficiency.

That's the deeper failure of South African transformation policy as it stands, it demands equity before any value has been created, punishing investors, discouraging investment, and leaving citizens without the very connectivity they were promised.

🚨👮‍♂️ BREAKING NEWS: The City of Cape Town has officially declared an intergovernmental dispute with the Acting Minister of Police, over his failure to extend investigation powers to Cape Town Metro Police Officers.

We have tried every collaborative effort to get successive Ministers of Police to do this. Many, including this one, have made supportive noises. But nothing has come of it. We can wait no longer.

Our communities live in daily fear of gang, gun, and drug crime. ❌ SAPS need the help of our officers to build winning dockets, so we can catch and convict more criminals.

When Nelson Mandela was inaugurated in 1994, South Africa's national finances were in remarkably good shape.

The Rand sat at R3.50 to the US Dollar, and both a South African passport and an average middle-class income carried real weight internationally.

Government debt stood at just 13.5% of GDP, the state owed almost nothing to foreign creditors, handing the new democracy complete fiscal independence and enormous room to invest in building a strong, modern state.

Skip ahead to 2026. Following years of state capture, cadre deployment, and repeated bailouts of failing state enterprises like Eskom and Transnet, that debt to GDP figure has climbed past 75%.

South Africa now spends more on servicing its debt than it does on healthcare or law enforcement.

Rather than channeling that borrowed money into factories, schools, or infrastructure like high-speed rail, the funds went largely toward inflated salaries for politically connected insiders, while the country's physical infrastructure was left to decay.

It's a special kind of failure to take over a public sector once ranked among the world's most transparent and least corrupt, and transform it into a system where even emergency funds vanish without a trace.

The economy may be faltering and infrastructure crumbling, but when it comes to siphoning state money into private pockets, ANC cadres are operating at peak efficiency.

If ordinary South Africans are going to maximum security prisons for dodging banks and cheating on taxes, then hoarding millions in foreign currency inside a couch is an absolute crime.

If the President wants to escape that exact same punishment, he better pack up his things, scrap every single monetary policy, burn the tax laws, release every single person currently sitting in jail for financial offenses, and fully refund everyone who was ever penalized by the revenue authorities.

You cannot run a country where the law is a weapon used to crush everyday citizens while acting as a bulletproof vest for Cyril Ramaphosa.

If Phala Phala is legal for the billionaire at the top, then tax evasion, illicit cash hoarding, and illegal foreign exchange must be legal for every single citizen from Soweto to Khayelitsha. The hypocrisy is completely rotten.

Either the law applies to the oligarch in the statehouse, or the law no longer exists in South Africa.
