๐ THEY ARE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS โ THEY BELONG AT CHRISTMAS ๐
The Lord Mayor announced on Morning Ireland this morning that Dublin's so-called โWinter Lightsโ festival is being moved to January.
No, Lord Mayor.
These lights have been part of Dublin's Christmas period for years. They should be turned on before Christmas, when families and communities across this city are celebrating Christmas.
Dublin City Council and the Lord Mayor should listen to the people of Dublin rather than simply deciding that a long-standing Christmas tradition can be moved to January and rebranded to suit a new programme.
Ireland has a deep Christian heritage and Christmas remains an important part of our culture and traditions. St Brigid's Day has its own proud Irish tradition and deserves to be celebrated in its own right.
Stop trying to change our Christmas traditions.
You can call them โWinter Lightsโ. You can move the festival on a calendar. But you cannot dictate away generations of Dublin tradition and culture.
๐ Christmas lights belong at CHRISTMAS. Keep them at Christmas.
