I had my first real disappointment at boxing tonight. I grew up wrestling, so I found my groove in BJJ pretty quickly. But I am not very good at boxing. I was hitting way too hard on the pads and messing up the combos. I guess I need to start practicing at home.
Progress continues apace. Yesterday was heavy deadlift, and I added back bench press. I've been focusing on LOTS of pushups because I had a little shoulder niggle that I didn't want to injure with heavy pressing. Yesterday felt good, though. Tonight is boxing with my son.
I managed a short walk/jog with the 18ish pound pack. I always feel so much faster than with the full ruck, but it never is. I need to jog at set intervals to really push the pace. At least I got it in. I'm generally not a fan of training at night.
@timkettenring I started BJJ/boxing earlier this year, so I've been focusing more on strength & conditioning and less on endurance, so it was a good test (or maybe confirmation that I'm making progress).
I gave this a shot yesterday after my heavy squats. I managed 4 rounds before calling it quits, but I'll go for 5 next time. We don't have a pullup bar outside, so I subbed rows. This will definitely remain in the rotation.

@dantaylor688 I'd guess pain itself does nothing but is a sign of something wrong, which could be reflected in the lower HRV, signalling a need to rest/recover.
I hit a 300 lb deadlift today! I pulled 225 lbs for the first time at the end of April, and with steady progress pulled 300 today. The next step is 2x bodyweight at 330-340, and then I may shoot for 400. But at 38 years old, I'm definitely the strongest I've ever been.
Finally, I'm hoping to maybe do some coaching. It's been a goal of mine for a while and a big part of why I joined Humango. So, should anyone see this, that's what I'm working on right now.
I'm basically starting from scratch here, but I'm going to be more active in sharing my training journey and hopefully generate some interest in the company I've helped build the last few years.
I plan to do some smaller, local triathlons and running races next year, so I'll add some more focused training once the strength comes along a bit more.
This was the first time I've ever not trained specifically for triathlon. But I only have so much time, and I knew if I wanted to make progress in these other areas, triathlon needed to take a backseat for a while. I'm happy with the decision so far.
Back in February I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and boxing with my son. My goals this year have been heavily focused on strength, conditioning, and basic endurance.
My physique at 62 is the result of nature + adherence to the 'talent stack' I espouse - high-level generalism.
1 Deadlift 2 x bodyweight
2 Chin-ups 20
3 100m sprint sub 13secs
4 One mile sub 6minutes
5 Body fat ~10%
Your nature determines your strengths, and how you train shapes you within your nature.
Most of my endurance training has been rucking/hiking with with some cycling and running sprinkled in. I still plan to race some triathlons, but it's not the main focus. Being strong for my family is more important than running fast off the bike.
