The Lost Bass is a global project, dedicated to tracing Paul McCartney's missing Höfner bass. We set out in Sept 2023. In Feb 2024 we announced: "It's back!"
God Bless you Johnnie Walker. Thanks for all the great music over the years and the great conversations. Thanks too for our dedication on Sounds of the 70s in February this year - 'My Love' - after we got the Lost Bass back for Paul McCartney. Radio won't be the same. @piratejw
@BeatlemaniaUK December 1963. John's J-160 E Gibson was stolen backstage, and disappeared for 51 years. Found in 2015. This was a real inspiration to us early on in The Lost Bass Project. History showed it could be done.
Within days of the theft the press coverage made the stolen bass 'too hot to handle'. It was taken to Ron Guest who ran a pub in Ladbroke Grove, who agreed to hide then buy the most famous bass guitar in the world. The stolen goods stayed in the Guest family for over 50 years.
Within 48 hours, the theft of Paul McCartney's Höfner bass on 10 October 1972 was making headlines around the world. The story included an appeal from Paul McCartney himself and ran in the @EveningStandard, @DailyMirror, @thetimes and @Reuters.
52 years ago today, Paul McCartney's original Höfner bass was stolen from the back of a sound engineer's van in Ladbroke Grove. Following the launch of The Lost Bass Project in Sept 2023, the bass is now back to where it once belonged.
8 May 2024. Put the date in your diary: "Peter Jackson to release restored version of Beatles’ 1970 documentary Let It Be on Disney+". Look out for The Lost Bass. https://t.co/7hhJ5rC99J
This is 'awesome'. @DrewBarrymore talking 'true crime stories' with legendary American journalist and TV anchor @DeborahNorville. First up, The Lost Bass. One month after Paul McCartney announced the bass was back, the story is still making headlines. https://t.co/gCvE0lUXBB
Australia has really got behind The Lost Bass story right from the start. It's been great fun working with the team at ABC News on radio interviews and now this Instagram story published today. This captures the adventure perfectly. @abcnews https://t.co/mNl9jDodIV
This is how many people in South America watched The Lost Bass story on TV on Sunday night - on Fantástico, the weekly news show on Globo TV. It's fantastic to see so many people around the world share this moment in music history. Thanks to @MuriloSalviano@showdavida@tvglobo
@MickPuck I'll always remember heading into Amsterdam on the train, listening to Ship of Fools on my walkman. Memories and music like that never fade. God Bless you Karl, for starting a World Party.
Após uma extensa investigação liderada por jornalistas britânicos, o baixo foi encontrado em uma pequena cidade no litoral sul da Inglaterra. O #Fantástico refez os passos dessa história: https://t.co/2v9zr19ghA
One of our favourite radio interviews from when we started the search for Paul McCartney's Lost Bass last year. This is Scott Jones on ABC in Australia, on 4 Sept 2023. Who would have thought it? Just weeks later the bass was back. Thrilling stuff. @abcnews
Have you seen Paul McCartney's bass guitar?
The Lost Bass project is trying to find Paul McCartney's iconic guitar used on their most famous recordings which went missing in 1969.

Johnnie Walker played 'My Love' today, dedicated to The Lost Bass Project. 'My Love' was recorded in 1972; the year the bass was stolen. "Congratulations to Scott and the team. How wonderful for Paul to have his favourite bass back." Thanks @piratejw https://t.co/dYMNJ4kTNU
