The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about World Cup-related online scams targeting fans looking for tickets, hospitality packages, merchandise, streaming access, and betting opportunities.
Cybercriminals are creating fake FIFA websites and social media ads that closely resemble legitimate ticketing and checkout pages. These sites may steal login credentials, personal information, credit card numbers, and payments.
Before buying World Cup tickets or related products, residents should go directly to the official FIFA website by typing the address into their browser. Do not rely on sponsored ads, social media posts, text messages, Telegram or WhatsApp links, or offers that appear unusually cheap or urgent.
Be cautious of sellers requesting payment through cryptocurrency, wire transfer, peer-to-peer payment apps, gift cards, or other methods that are difficult to reverse. Do not trust screenshots, PDFs, or “paper tickets” offered by private sellers.
Residents who believe they were victimized should contact their local law enforcement agency, notify their bank or credit card company immediately, preserve screenshots and transaction records, and file a report with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center at https://t.co/sv142KFA4D.
@ibrake4ants I wish people, especially medical professionals, were still masking. I wish this was making major headline news. I was one of a very few ppl masked to get a blood draw today. ZERO masking by staff and nurses. So I have to put myself at risk right now to receive medical care….
Just a reminder of how completely abnormal it is to have an airborne disease that in a significant number of cases leads to either disability or a new-onset chronic illness circulating permanently at high levels without any way of treating it or reliably preventing it
@drclairetaylor Inwish ppl paid closer attention, everyone is saying it’s all over why are you still masking and being so careful? B/c I have long Covid!
