@CJPJustProj @Chicago_Police@UChiUrbanLabs@Chicago_Police is not interested in using science for staffing. They don’t want public knowing how many officers are in each district. Also, the alderpersons will never stop misusing crime as a political tool to be exploited. Remember CPD above all HATES any kind of oversight.
Season 4 of the Chicago Justice podcast has launched! We start by discussing one of the most critical bills in the general assembly: Karina’s bill. It creates a system to remove guns from people subject to an order of protection. @AscendJustice https://t.co/DI1zaTl7kH
@peoplesfabric You are correct. I would also bet that the FOP tells officers to request time off in the summer so they can promote this narrative—that we need more cops to do the job. They have never needed less—ALWAYS more.
@peoplesfabric The CPD does not want data driven deployment. If they did they would already have it . They have had years to conduct a staffing study & haven’t. Had one done in 2010 & ignored it. Also walked away from @UChiUrbanLabs recently creating one. It is all lies.
The video of the Dexter Reed traffic stop should have everyone questioning the effectiveness of the consent decree & the bogus reforms promoted by Eddie Johnson, @ChiefDavidBrown & @CPDSupt. If you are now reforming these engagements nothing else matters.
In case you missed our Executive Director’s OpEd in @CrainsChicago last week. Above all else, this traffic stop proves that reform from the consent decree has not made it down to on-the-street engagements where it’s needed most! Don’t believe the rhetoric. https://t.co/NZrG2Iv7mx
@peoplesfabric Stop Right There! Whatever you do, do not let facts get in the way of the alt-right’s knowitallism. They know it wasn’t going to work so of course it cannot be working.
Yup. Here is the white wing of Chicago doing their best to spin their way out of an illegal stop by a rouge police special unit that went horrifically bad. Is this unit another SOS?
Maybe someone can confirm this for us.
We keep hearing ideal citizen Dexter Reed, in addition to getting $20K in PPP money and shooting at CPD, managed to work for the Chicago Park District last year for one whole week before getting fired.
Anyone confirm?
Just Released! CJP’s new report: Cops in Schools: Tracking Nationwide Changes after George Floyd. The report helps you understand how America’s largest cities, including Chicago, shifted their policies on deploying cops in schools after the murder. https://t.co/lGpgEwJTBf
@peoplesfabric He is not the sharpest for sure. He also has accountability issues. He is not going to further accountability in the CPD he will be an impediment.
My latest OpEd in @CrainsChicago - science from @OJPNIJ - shows #ShotSpotter didn’t lead to more arrests for violent gun crimes. @Chicago_Police, alt-right alderpeople, & editorial boards demand city keep it. Bad fiscal policy & bad for communities. https://t.co/QTVbqTuTjP
Science does not lie. Politicians do. Shot Spotter has never been independently validated. @RaymondALopez says the @ChicagoOIG & @cookcountysao are both lying as part of some evil cabal. How very trumpian of him.
🔊Don’t believe the police defunders. The 15th Ward was the launching pad for ShotSpotter technology and the SDSC Room in the @ChicagoCAPS07 under @MayorRahm Emanuel.
🔊ShotSpotter technology has been one of the most valuable tools in tracking gunfire in the 7th, @ChicagoCAPS08 and @ChicagoCAPS09.
🔊ShotSpotter is accurate within 7 feet of identifying the location of a shooting, is able to identify the type of firearm used (semi, automatic), is able to triangulate a possible drive-by shooting, and can differentiate between gunshots and fireworks.
🔊In the last 7 days, ShotSpotters recorded 187 incidents of shots fired, many with multiple rounds per incident. This technology alerts @Chicago_Police of a shot fired minutes before residents are able to dial 911 allowing officers to respond quicker and with accuracy. This eliminated having a caller give a vague description of where they thought they may have heard gunfire.
🔊This administration, and in particular, @ChicagosMayor, has not only stripped away our officers’ biggest resource in responding to gunfire, but has now put the responsibility on already fearful residents to risk their safety to let 911 know where they might have heard the shots.
A great example of the fruits of the Chicago Justice Project’s transparency work. Today a coalition of civil rights groups release a report on the @DCPoliceDept ‘s gang database. More to come - still waiting for MPD to turn over emails about sharing gang data with other agencies.
After years of litigation to force transparency, we finally have a better view into DC’s discriminatory and unreliable gang database. A big thanks to all the orgs who made this report possible! @CivRightsCorps@NIPNLG@BlackSwanAcad@JustFuturesLaw@TeamUpturn @CJPJustProj
“CPD has never taken data collection seriously, and it goes throughout the ranks. It is an institutionalized problem,” says Tracy Siska, founder of the @CJPJustProj, which studies data across the criminal justice system.

@DellTech I think I might break a record. You are now sending me my 3rd replacement monitor in a week. The first one had deep scratches on the screen - 2nd monitor was broken & will not display anything. I cannot wait for what you are sending me this time. #useless
@chicagobars I think you are mostly right. The problem is the alt right in Chicago always exploit crime figures to push their agenda. Not sure what the counter to that is.
It is like this giuy lives under a rock or somehting. Can you imaging people joy riding and cauising accidents in their cars in a city over 2.5 million people?
This Sunday morning in Chicago.
Two cars go zigzagging through a red light in Chinatown at 5:15am. Shockingly but not surprisingly a young couple is on the side of the road after the same duo hits them at 18th & Clark St.
#NoMoreExecuses
Our take on the alt-right criticisms of @Chicago_Police foot & car pursuit policies. Their criticisms ignore the consequences for Chicago’s communities when they go wrong. Chicago paid out $30 million over the last 12 months in settlements & judgments. https://t.co/5dg5zTqxe3
Just dropped: latest episode of Good & Bad Justice Journalism. We look at the 15 Qs Chicago media seems unwilling to ask @Chicago_Police Supt. to be Larry Snelling. Communities deserve to know the answers before the city council holds their vote. https://t.co/3QViiofIZJ
