University staff have had pensions cut by 35%, pay cut by 20% in just over a decade, and are increasingly forced onto exploitative precarious contracts.
But today they're fighting back.
Solidarity to @UCU members on strike at universities across the country today ✊🏽
I'm doing some research into adult playfulness and hoping to get as many responses to this questionnaire as possible: https://t.co/w4CovaZcsJ
If you have 5 minutes please could you help me out? Anyone 18 or older eligible.
Please retweet/share widely. Much appreciated.
The only good thing to come out of COP26 is that at least we now know with absolute certainty that our current leadership/system is utterly incapable of meaningfully addressing the climate and ecological emergency.
@DaveCBeck Oh go on then! 🤪 This very much explains my resistance, and why I sit restlessly at a lot of meetings, wondering why everyone echoes the same things that don't make much sense (to me anyway) 🤷🏻♀️
@DaveCBeck What do you mean, maybe not? Maybe the physical range is not narrower? I'd agree with that. The brain is physical after all, plus you can think yourself to artificial physical changes and altered realities too so no limits, I guess...?
@DaveCBeck Hi after a long time! That saying 'Use it or lose it'? Don't those feedback loops to the brain from parts of our body on a cellular level mean we could actually change our physical selves too over time through use/disuse, renewal/discharge? Just speculating...
I used to think that people know the same things I do, and so wouldn't mention ideas I'd had, because it must be obvious, right? Turns out not. I learnt today that many of my library colleagues aren't aware how audiobooks work these days. They're sure willing to learn though!
I'd love to see comprehensive collections of audiobooks at public and academic libraries one day. For now, I recommend that students try podcasts if they struggle with their recommended reading. Doesn't seem fair that they should have to pay whereas print and ebooks users don't.
