So here’s a real-life story.

A young woman just got married. Fresh marriage. Fresh vows. Fresh commitment.
But there’s a problem, she still communicates with her ex.

Fast forward to this year.

Her ex bought her an iPhone 17.
If I’m not mistaken, that phone goes for over $800

Now the husband finds out.

And boom, trouble enters the marriage.

The man becomes worried. Hurt. Disrespected.
He threatens to end the marriage, telling her to go back to her ex since what he provides is clearly not enough for her.
From his perspective, she didn’t just accept a gift, she humiliated him by going behind his back to receive something that expensive without his consent.

So the big question is this:

Is she right or wrong?

Here’s my take.

For an ex to buy a married woman a phone worth that amount without involving her husband, there is bad intention written all over it.
And if cheating hasn’t already happened, the foundation for it has clearly been laid.

Let’s be honest with ourselves.

No man spends over a million naira on a married woman “just to be nice.”
That’s not kindness, that’s intrusion.

Now, if I were that guy and my intentions were truly pure, this is what I would have done:

I would first speak to the woman and tell her,
“I want to have a man-to-man conversation with your husband.”

With her permission, I’d reach out to the husband directly.
If the husband agrees, I’d either send the money through him or gift the phone through his approval.

Anything outside that is disrespect.
Anything outside that is crossing a line.
Anything outside that is emotional cheating, if not physical already.

You don’t accept life-changing gifts from an ex behind your spouse’s back and still call it innocence.

That’s betrayal wearing the mask of generosity.
