SPX into the close: what the gamma and charm maps say (Fri Oct 16, OPEX)
SPX closed 7,659, down about 88 pts from this morning's 7,747. High 7,757 near the open, low 7,632, and it finished well under VWAP 7,693. The semis slide drove the selling all day.
GAMMA (Persistence Map)
The whole map shifted lower during the day:
- Flip went from 7,710 this morning to 7,658. Price closed right on it.
- Put wall went from 7,700 to 7,660. We closed a hair under it at 7,659.
- Call wall came in from 8,000 to 7,900.
- The control node moved from 7,800 down to 7,705. It added the biggest intraday gamma build of any strike, and it's negative gamma. It sits 0.6% above spot and is now overhead resistance.
What it means: SPX is pinned exactly at flip + put wall (7,658-7,660). That's the line between dealers dampening moves and dealers chasing them. Hold it, and dip-buying toward the wall works. Lose it, and dealers short gamma have to sell into weakness. 7,800 is still the most persistent gamma strike (21 of 23 days). That's the old magnet we left behind.
CHARM (time decay of dealer hedges)
- Re-hedge node moved down to 7,695, 0.5% above spot. It's an overhead pull and built 530K of charm today.
- Strongest positive charm sits right at price: 7,660 (+1.48M) and 7,670 (+1.32M). That's support from hedge decay at the close.
- Strongest negative charm: 7,720 (-2.26M), 7,800 (-1.54M), 7,650 (-1.46M), 7,685 (-1.25M), 7,710 (-1.12M).
- Most persistent charm zones: 7,750 (8 days), 7,720 and 7,800 (6 days each).
Read: positive charm at 7,660-7,670 cushions the close, but negative charm at 7,650 sits just below it. A break under 7,650 opens the 7,632 low. Above, 7,685, 7,695, 7,705 and 7,720 are stacked friction, and 7,720 is the heaviest charm strike on the board.
Levels to watch Monday:
Support 7,660 / 7,658 flip, then 7,650, then the 7,632 LOD.
Resistance 7,670 PDL, 7,693 VWAP, 7,695-7,705 node, then 7,720.

$SPX Recap CPI Day + PPI Battle Plan📉⚔️
CPI reaction drove price lower into the 7720 Re-Hedge Node, where a massive -1.82M of negative charm has built. Spot closed right on/near the gamma flip at 7721.49, with the Control Node still sitting much higher at 7770.
CPI Recap (Gamma & Charm Perspective)
• The move into 7720 aligned with the largest negative charm cluster on the map. Dealers were forced to sell into the decline as negative charm expanded, reinforcing the downside.
• Positive charm remains stacked higher (notably 7765 +1.20M and 7780 +691K), but price never reclaimed those zones after the data.
• Gamma stayed relatively muted near spot, allowing the charm-driven re-hedge at 7720 to dominate the session.
• Persistent re-hedge zones below (especially around 7750–7720) acted as magnets once the initial reaction unfolded.
PPI Battle Plan (Tomorrow)
Spot is pinned at the 7720 Re-Hedge Node / Gamma Flip. This is the decision zone heading into PPI.
Base case (hold 7720):
Expect continued magnet behavior around 7718–7725. Negative charm here can keep price sticky unless PPI produces a clear directional impulse. Range-bound action is likely pre-data.
Bullish PPI reaction (reclaim gamma flip):
Acceptance above 7722–7725 turns the re-hedge node into support. Positive charm stacked at 7765 and 7780 becomes the upside magnet, with the Control Node at 7770 as the primary target. A move into 7765–7770 would represent a full mean-reversion back toward the higher gamma structure.
Bearish PPI reaction (lose 7720):
Sustained break below 7720 with expanding negative charm opens the next downside pockets. The heavy negative bars at 7695 (-1.11M) and 7685 (-1.49M) become the next re-hedge magnets. Expect acceleration lower if gamma turns more negative beneath the flip.
Key levels into PPI:
7685–7695 (next negative charm) → 7720 (Re-Hedge Node / Gamma Flip) → 7765–7770 (positive charm + Control Node)

$SPX Gamma & Node Battle Plan⚔️
CPI Day
Spot is sitting right on the Control Node at 7805, just beneath the gamma flip at 7807.50. Net gamma is positive across the board, which normally favors magnet behavior and damped volatility. Tomorrow’s CPI release changes the equation; expect the market to respect these levels until the data hits, then potentially expand.
Key Levels
• 7805 — Control Node + current spot (primary magnet)
• 7807.50 — Gamma Flip (line in the sand)
• 7810 — Heavy positive charm (+1.28M) — first upside re-hedge zone
• 7820 — OF Call + strong charm (+680K)
• 7790 — Re-Hedge Node + OF Put (+428K charm)
• 7800 — OF Call + persistent re-hedge zone (6d)
CPI Battle Plan⚔️
Pre-CPI (pin / range):
Expect price to stay magnetized between 7790–7810. Positive gamma + the Control Node at 7805 should suppress early moves and encourage mean-reversion. The 7800–7805 zone is the highest-conviction support/magnet area.
Bullish CPI reaction (break above gamma flip):
Clean acceptance above 7807.50–7810 turns dealers long gamma into a supportive tailwind. The heavy positive charm at 7810 and 7820 becomes a re-hedge magnet that can accelerate price toward 7820–7825. OF Call at 7820 reinforces the upside target. Watch for follow-through above 7820 for extension.
Bearish CPI reaction (break below control node):
Loss of 7805 with expanding volume puts the Control Node and gamma flip overhead as resistance. The 7790 Re-Hedge Node / OF Put becomes the first downside magnet. A sustained break below 7790 opens a faster move into the 7780–7785 area (next persistent re-hedge zone). Negative charm below 7805 can amplify downside if volatility expands.
Volatility Context
• Positive gamma = normally dampens moves and pins price.
• CPI can overwhelm this if the print is a significant surprise. Treat 7805–7807.50 as the decision zone; hold above and the structure supports a grind higher; lose it and the re-hedge nodes below take control.
Summary levels into CPI:
7790 (re-hedge/OF Put) → 7805 (Control Node) → 7807.50 (Gamma Flip) → 7810–7820 (upside charm + OF Call)

$SPY bounced off the 0tde put wall and is forming great structure below the 785 call wall with the 780 node becoming very heavy

$SPX Positive Charm Support Setup💰
Heavy positive charm at 7780 (+1.14M) sits below the gamma flip (7801.61).
Dealers are forced to buy into this strike → acts as a magnetic floor.
How to trade it: • Wait for a test of 7780 • Look for a wick / reversal candle • Long on the bounce • Invalidation: clean break below 7775 • Targets: 7810 re-hedge node → gamma flip
Positive charm = insulation, not a breakout trigger. Use it for rejections.

$SPX Close Plan⚔️ -Spot at 7810 (Above Gamma Flip)Spot is holding 7810, cleanly above the gamma flip (~7801.6) and the Control Node at 7800. Positive gamma is dominant across the board, which favors magnet behavior and reduced volatility into the close.Key Levels7810 = Current spot / near-term magnet
7801–7802 = Gamma flip (key support)
7800 = Control Node (stronger floor if tested)
7820–7830 = Next resistance zone with building positive GEX
7800 (invalidation) → 7802 (gamma flip) → 7810 (spot magnet) → 7815+ (upside extension).
Close Battle Plan:
Base case (pin / grind): Expect price to stay pinned or magnetized around 7808–7812. Positive gamma + control node below should dampen moves and discourage a late breakdown. Range-bound into the close is the highest-probability outcome.
Bullish path: Acceptance above 7815 opens a slow grind toward 7820–7825. Dealers remain long gamma, so upside should be measured rather than explosive unless volume expands.
Bearish risk: Only a decisive break and hold below 7800 (control node + gamma flip) flips the script. That would turn gamma flip into resistance and open a faster move lower into the 7785–7790 area. Low probability while positive gamma holds.
Volatility notes: With net positive gamma, expect mean-reversion and fading of late spikes in either direction. Ideal environment for short-premium / range strategies into the close.

$SPX Heatmap Battle Plan⚔️
Control Node + Overhead Vanna Magnet Spot is sitting right on the Control Node at 7800, just below the gamma flip (~7809). Net gamma remains constructive across the board, which favors magnet behavior and damped volatility as long as we hold this zone. The key development is the Re-Hedge Node at 7815 (Vanna). The largest volatility-driven dealer re-hedge build since the open is stacking here, and spot is currently ~0.16% below it. This creates an overhead re-hedge magnet; dealers are likely to buy dips / sell rips into the strike if vol remains elevated or expands. Battle Plan: Base case (hold 7800): Expect pinning/magnet behavior around the control node. Range trade 7795–7815 while positive gamma holds. Vanna at 7815 acts as a soft ceiling and re-hedge draw.
Bullish trigger: Clean acceptance above 7810–7815 flips the script. Dealers short gamma above the call wall must buy, and the vanna re-hedge can accelerate the move. Target next liquidity pockets higher.
Bearish invalidation: Loss of 7800 with expanding negative gamma below. Gamma flip becomes resistance and the overhead magnet loses influence expect faster downside into lower strikes.
Volatility note: Watch vanna at 7815 closely. Rising vol increases the magnetic pull upward; collapsing vol weakens it.
Two swings we are drawing up NFA but we are starting to see this shift within the trend the upper nodes are starting to show there hand.

$SPX Gamma & Charm Levels for Tomorrow
Spot is pinning right around the Control Node / Call Wall at 7810, where the largest intraday gamma build has stacked up. Net gamma is positive here, so expect magnet behavior that dampens volatility and keeps price attracted to the strike on tests.
Just below sits the Re-Hedge Node at 7805, where charm has been building aggressively (the biggest time-driven dealer re-hedge zone since the open)This acts as a floor re-hedge draw.
Key levels to watch:
• 7810 = Control node + call wall (primary upside ceiling while below)
• 7805 = Charm re-hedge floor
• Above 7810 = Breakout territory. Dealers short gamma must buy to re-hedge.
Positive gamma + call wall confluence favors a pin/magnet around 7810 unless we get a clean break. Watch how charm and gamma evolve into the open.

Friday 10/9 close TradeLabLevels
$SPY closed 778.66, holding VWAP 777.68 and PDH 777.09. Call wall sits at 780, next heavy strike 785. Gamma flip 776.90 is below. Above the flip with price leaning on the call wall is positive-gamma territory into the weekend — dealers more likely to fade extensions than chase them unless the wall breaks clean.
$QQQ 751.42. HOD 752.86 overhead, VWAP 750.39 underneath. Structure is tighter than SPY; a hold of VWAP keeps the book supported, a loss opens the path back toward the flip zone.
$IWM 279.04, just over VWAP 278.78. 9EMA 279.95 and HOD 279.88 both sit overhead. Small-cap book is compressed; either a push through those levels or a fade back to VWAP.
Friday close adds charm pressure. Time decay accelerates into the weekend, and any far-OTM re-hedge nodes can force delta adjustments even without a big spot move. Vanna is also in play: if implied vol compresses over the weekend (typical when there’s no event), dealers who are short calls often have to buy underlying, which can support the walls we just printed.
Between the call wall and the flip is the expected range until something shifts the book. Gamma gives the zone. Price has to confirm the break or the rejection.
